Rules for Posting on the Duff

I don't know how possible it is, but I think it would be productive to have a feature on this board where X amount of downvotes on a post/thread will automatically delete it.

It is not realistic to have the mods monitoring every post on the board 24/7.

Especially for threads about recruits. We know they are reading, it would be nice to get rid of the trolls stiring up rumors and idiots bumping asking for updates.

Is this even a possibility, or am I way off base?

That'd be very very convenient, but essentially makes the masses the moderator (ganging up on a disliked poster would lead to all their posts being deleted, even if they weren't objectionable, per the rules).

For now I'd take a "report post" function; right now we have to rely on PMs.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

Hey all, Trevor made me a mod for this board. I thought I'd introduce myself and lay down some basic ground rules for posting on here:

    1. This is first and foremost a Michigan State Spartans' message board and exists for the MSU fanbase. In short, this is our house. All are welcome here, but guests should act like guests. You do not go into another person's house, break their dishes, then demand a backrub and a foot massage. There will be minimal tolerance for trolling and baseless rumor-spreading. This is not the forum to rip on MSU, or otherwise disrespect Michigan State. This forum's priority is information, not speculation or flame wars; keep that to the RCMB or the Blue Board.

    2. MSU fans: Same goes for you. We do have guests on here, and not only from other schools. Recruits, their families, friends and parents ARE on here and the last thing any of you want to do is to some how negatively influence a recruit's opinion of MSU. As far as the trolls are concerned, point them out to me and I'll take care of them. The best thing you can do is to ignore them; I know how hard that is and have gotten into it with them before myself. That ends now. As far as opposing fans, there will be very low tolerance for mixing it up in the individual recruits' threads. I'm ok with some back and forth in the main 2012 thread, but not much and it should be limited SOLELY to recruiting.

    3. In that vein, keep posts in the individual recruits threads to: a) Updated information about the ongoing MSU recruitment of a prospect. This does include other offers, visits (yes, even to other schools), camp performances, prospect ranking updates, updates about leaders/preferences, commitment schedules and the eventual commitment, and b) How said recruit would possibly fit in at MSU or what another school is recruiting them as (positional-wise). I prefer that any rumors be supported by a link, or some other source.

    4. All other recruiting information or discussion should be kept in the general recruiting thread. That goes for team recruiting rankings, guesses as to who ends up at each school, scholarship #s, overall depth chart looks, 2013 prospects, etc. As far as commentary, I've got no problem with people being critical of MSU's recruiting but please realize that there's a line between criticism and outright bashing, and I expect you not to cross it.

    5. As a general rule, I'll give out at least 2 warnings before any banning. If there are any questions or concerns, send me a PM and I'm glad to talk about them.

If you have any questions about the rules, post them in this thread. Glad to be on board, happy posting!

    This made me hard.

  • So are the writers the only ones allowed to start player threads in the duff? I saw that Sean replaced my thread. No big deal to me, just want to know....thanks

Not to my knowledge. Which thread are you referring to?

He did the same to my Antonio Allen awhile back. Deleted mine and started one with less info than what I had in mine.

  • Apparently this needs to be spelled out, so I'll make it clear.

Anyone demanding a commit/bashing any recruit for not committing fast enough according to the poster's timeline will have their post deleted and have a 1-day ban. The next time you do it, it's a 2-day ban. I'll keep doubling the ban till the next time you're able to post on here, Max Bullough's grandson will be entering his 3rd year starting at MIKE.

I've edited the OP to reflect this update.

  • Not sure how but we need to get 99% of the posts moved to the 2013 thread. That thread would be active with posts all day for those that want to discuss recruiting, it would be great. As it is 95% of the posts in recruit threads are in the wrong place i.e. all the crap about twitter in CB's new thread. Maybe a sticky with just this particular rule by itself explained in more detail?

  • Why did my post get deleted in the Devyn Salmon thread, only for Sean to repost the same info?

  • Why did my post show up as VIP only? I am just posting twitter content...

    YouDoubleJack

  • Why is the first post of every new thread VIP now? It's not like there is special info in it, it's just the recruits profile page.

I don't know. I'm on mobile, so I un-VIPed the first chunk. I'll do the rest when I get back to my laptop this afternoon. No prob with Sean's updates being VIP, but the first post should not be. Biggest issue is that by making the first post VIP you make any subsequent quoted post VIP and that's not fair to the non-VIPs. Would make all recruiting discussions VIP; not what I understand the purpose of this board to be.
