The 2013 Realistic Wish List

I think he's being looked at as a possible TE. Reports were that he bulked up (naturally) and it affected his fluidity. Get him to 6'4 235-240ish and I think you have a nice receiving TE prospect to take over for Sims in a year or 2.

Yeah he could be a nice package guy in the slot once we get in the redzone

I'm thinking Juwan Caesar will transfer. Reports are that he was too slow off the line and he hasn't made the top 6 WRs so he probably won't play at all this year. If he transfers after this year he'll still get 2 years to play.

I'm wondering how Alabama ever fields a team that isn't completely made up of freshman or sophmores .... I mean if everybody who doesn't immediately make the 2 deep transfers and all

I thought Caesar has been growing into a TE. He's about 215-220 (from 190ish) and looks like he has the frame to put on 30 or more lbs.

I would hate to see a talented guy like that transfer out. The move to TE makes sense if he can put on the size and block a little. I'm not there in practice to see him but he didn't look stunning in the spring game. Disappointing because his HS film was literally, unbelievable. He had a combination of size and speed you don't see much of. Here's to hoping he can transition with some ease.

Per 247 Sports Knevel will be attending tonight's game.

Sat nearby the recruits at midfield. Knevel is a very tall kid. He looked pretty fit and not just big and chubby.

Lots of the recruits and the Cass Tech kids were in full force at the game.

Hopefully we can get them back for the ND game.

This is the earliest in the recruiting process that I've ever put together a wish list. With MSU's 2013 class about 90% complete, it's time to take a look at a realistic wish list.
MSU currently has 42 offers out to 2013 prospects who are still uncommitted. Here goes :

FL, ATH Lamar Robbins - His top 2 were MSU and WVU but about 15 other schools are still pushing hard for him. If the U were to offer him, that's where he would go. He may take an Official Visit to MSU. Even with Delton Williams commit, MSU may continue to recruit him because of his versatility to play S, CB and WR.
CA, S Brandon Arnold - MSU and Cal are his current Top 2. If Ore. offers him, then that's where he would go. Wants to take an Official Visit to MSU. May not really want to leave the West Coast. With Delton Williams commit, MSU may not continue to recruit him unless they decide they still want a prototype SS.
IL, DL Josh Augusta - Top 3 of Mizzou, MSU and ILL in that order. He had some grade issues which it appears he is getting resolved. Planning to take an Official Visit to MSU.
IL, DE Ruben Dunbar - He has declared that MSU is his leader. Had some grade issues but apparently those have been resolved. He wants to schedule an Official Visit to MSU.
JUCO, DT Kyle Peko - MSU legacy. If USC were to offer him, that's where he would go but it looks like USC won't ever be offering him now. MSU currently leads for him. Took an Official Visit to MSU. His friend, Spartan Fou Fonoti, was his Spartan host when he visited.
FL, CB Mackensie Alexander - Has indicated he would like to take an Official Visit to MSU. Considered a ND lean. He is a big -time ATH and MSU would make room for him if he wanted to commit.
OH, OL Kyle Meadows - MSU is in his Top 5. He attended o$u's summer camp but they didn't extend him an offer. If o$u ever offers him, then that's where he would go. MSU is keepng tabs on him and wants to see more of him during his Sr. season. He wants to take an Official Visit to MSU.
FL, DT Monty Nelson - MSU is in his Top 6. It appears that MSU has cooled on him. He still wants to take an Official Visit to MSU.
FL, S Justin Williams - Top 3 of MSU, S. Car. and FIU. It appears that MSU has cooled on him.
PA, ATH Tyler Boyd - Versatile player who can play RB, WR, CB and S. MSU is in his Top 6.
OH, S Marcus Ball - MSU is in his Top 4 along with Wisc., ND, and ASU but Wisc. leads for him now. Has a conditional offer from MSU but with Delton Williams commit, MSU will probably no longer recruit him.
GA, DT Montravious Adams - MSU is in his Top 6. He is planning an Official Visit to MSU but so far has not scheduled a visit. His HS friend, Spartan Keith Mumphery will be his Spartan host when he visits.
NJ, OT Hunter Knighton - MSU has been trying to schedule him in for an Official Visit. Probably will receive an offer if he visits. MSU would move into his top 5 if they extend him an offer. Pat Narduzzi is his main recruiter.
GA, DT Jay Ellison - Wants to take an Official Visit to MSU.
TX, OL Caleb Benenoch - MSU is still recruiting him. He may take an Official Visit to MSU.
OH, DT Donovan Munger - May be an o$u lean but he is planning to take all 5 of his official visits and MSU could get one.
FL, DT Maquedius Bain - De-committed from FSU. Recently stated that his top 5 are now MSU, Miami, Bama, LSU and USC. Planning to take all 5 of his Official Visits and MSU may be one of them. His former HS teammate, Spartan McGarrett Kings, would be his Spartan host.
MI, OL Poet Thomas - The staff wants to see how he performs @ OT during his Sr. season before considering offering him. He would commit quickly if MSU extends him an offer.
ON, OT David Knevel - The staff wants to see some Sr. film before considering offering him. He likes MSU and would probably commit if MSU offers him.
NY, WR Malique Belfort - Recently offered by MSU. The staff may still be considering taking a big WR in 2013 but it's not necessarily a priority and Belfort does fit the mold (6'-4", 200 lbs.). If MSU schedules him in for a Official Visit then that would mean they are strongly considering taking another WR in 2013
MI, OT Riley Norman - Will attend MSU on a Track & Field scholarship.
IL, WR Laquon Treadwell - MSU is in his Top 5 but he will eventually choose UM.
PA, WR Robert Foster - MSU is in his Top 5. Pitt may lead now due to family issues. He is now the father of twins. Also some grade concerns.

Well, that's now 22 names for 1 or 2 spots. Realistically, the staff will continue recruiting about 10 of these players hard.

Note : The staff will continue to concentate on DL and OL to finish out the 2013 class.

  • What's the word on wrs? A few months back it was a big discussion. Are those just copies and pastes or are we still interested in them all? Thanks for the info too!

After watching his high school highlight video, I've always thought that TE was the most likely way he would see the field at MSU. I also came away with the impression that he was taller than his listed 6'4" too.

All of the players on the list are still on MSU's recruiting board but the priority list on the recruiting board is shrinking rapidly.

  • CBD, can you comment on MSU's variation in class size? It seems that every few years MSU is in a situation where there isn't a big senior class, and that results in a limited number of scholarships, and in the end a lower class ranking (don't care, just an observation). Is there an ideal number that the staff would like to be filling every year, 21 or so? If so is there a way the staff can get there when they have some years they're only taking a dozen to fifteen kids?

The biggest reason for the low # of scholarships for 2013 goes back to the 2008 and 2009 recruiting classes. Because of the high attrition in those 2 classes (career ending injuries, transfers, dismissed from team, etc.), 19 of those players are no longer on the team and they would have been 4th or 5th year Seniors now, On-going those scholarships ended up going to the up-coming recruiting classes. That's why there are so few upper classmen on this team and a large pct. of underclassmen, thus limited scholarships available for 2013.
The 2014 recruiting class should return to a more normal level of scholarships available (20-22) and continue that way thru the years.
I don't see MSU ever again having as small a # of scholarships available as they do in 2013. The 2013 recruiting class is an aberration and not likely to ever happen again.

Do you see the last two slots going to a DT (probably Peko) and the best available?

MSU is still working on some options but the spots available at this point in time are at a premium and the staff will be very selective.
Kyle Peko is a priority on the recruiting board and there is a spot for him.
The staff would like to sign another top HS DT to develop but that may not be possible.
The staff is beating the bushes for OT prospects but the pickings are pretty slim. They won't sign another OT for 2013 just to get a warm body, They want one who they feel can be a legitimate B1G prospect.
They are still in contact with Lamar Robbins as a big, versatile ATH and would take him if he wanted to commit.
The staff is still considering 2013 prospects they will schedule in for Official Visits. That will be an indicator of what positions they will look to finish off the 2013 class with. Some possibilities are :
    Josh Augusta
    Ruben Dunbar
    Donovan Munger
    Lamar Robbins
    Malique Belfort
    Brandon Arnold
    Mackensie Alexander
    And of course Montravious Adams

  • Any chance we offer 5 star JUCO OL Desmond Harrison? We would arguably be his best offer

I haven't heard whether or not MSU has had any contact with Harrison. He has double digit offers from schools around the USA.
Don't know if MSU would even be a player for him at this late date.

Do you know how realistic Tristan Nickelson, Toby Johnson, and Rod Crayton are?

MSU has a shot with Nickelson.
Probably too late to the party with Johnson and Crayton (will stay in the South).
