The Official 2014 Recruiting Thread

Any word who is on campus today for Junior Day? What are the chances we get a 2014 commit this week?

I think if we get a commitment this weekend, it will be Antonio Riles (2013 on his OV) or DeShone Kizer or Caleb Henderson(if he's visiting)

IMO it is unlikely that MSU will receive a commit this week. But if it does happen, it will likely be tomorrow or tuesday at the earliest.

This is true. Dantonio always asks kids to go home and discuss it with their parents after an OV.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Urban getting Webb like that bothers me more than if Webb chose UofM to be honest. I just can't stand Urban. He just comes across as slimy.. . like one of those TV televangelists that convince old people to give them money so they can get to heaven.

Which seems to work really well unless the recruit has another visit the next day and someone asks for the sale

Agreed. At least the baconator over in AA seems like a good dude. Meyer is pure scum.

Good article, thanks for keeping an eye out for the freebie. Do you see him as the same type of player/runner that Hosey doubles for at Cass Tech? And between the two, do you shrug off the classroom concerns with Collins, or pursue the versatility of Hosey because he's a beast at LB as well? Anyone jump on this.

I think Dorsey is right when he says Collins may need to camp at MSU so the staff can get a good look at him.

What's weird about how this has developed is that earlier this year his name was out there a ton as one of those 14'er kids to keep an eye on. Is it the classroom stuff holding back major interest, because there is not alot to question when you watch his film? Should also be noted he had some injuries that hung around all season as well.

Interesting comment in there from Collins that his cousin, Anthony Woods, still speaks to MSU coaches and seems to have a positive relationship with them despite transferring. Woods is now a starting olineman at Tennessee State, or so the internet says. He was an oline recruit in 2009 or so.

Yea, that's a good call; I remember Collins being talked about as a possible 4-star guy a year ago. Looks like that was a bit premature.

But I'm still trying to figure out why? By all accounts if he was as hampered by a nagging injury as some said, I thought his film was really impressive. Still think he's almost the same type of back Gary Hosey would be at the next level and dig his LB versatility but I really, really still like Lorenzo Collins. He just be one of those Poet Thomas types who never come to fruition, or has a monster SR season and shuts down all the monday morning qb's like me. He still has the opportunity to shake off the classroom and injury stuff and realize that potential.

  • Wondering what this board's opinion is on Kizer vs Henderson? Henderson is probably the better passer, but i'd rather have Kizer because of the added dimension he has

I'd like to alternate between Pro and Dual QB's. Furthermore, I think Henderson is a better talent than Kizer, straight up. Ultimately, however, O'Connor would be the best option, from everything I've heard about him.

Henderson ran for 600 yards as a sophomore and 453 this year. He may be labeled as a pocket-passer, but he's definitely demonstrated running ability in high school.

  • FWIW, schollies for 2012 should be a full class.

I count 14 guys from the 2009 class, plus Fonoti and Hoover in their 5th and 6th years. Bullough, Lewis and Dennard are all true SRs next year too, so that's 19 to start with.

MSU will sign 18-20 prospects for 2014.
Note : Probably not much attrition but a walk-on or two could be awarded a scholarship.

  • Rumors going around that OSU is losing an OL to transfer because he's homesick. Could that hurt us with Richardson and Trout? Not sure how far down they are on OSU's board.

  • Prospect watch: Thomas Jefferson’s Chase Winovich

6-foot-4, 212 pounds, LB, Thomas Jefferson (Jefferson Hills, Pennsylvania)

Winovich received his first scholarship offer when Pitt pulled the trigger on Wednesday. Penn State, West Virginia, Michigan State, Northwestern and Virginia also are showing interest.

“It was awesome to get my first scholarship opportunity, and it was really cool that it was from my hometown school,” Winovich said. “I want to be a linebacker in college, and that‘s what they want me for. It‘s very relieving to me because I know that I have the skill set and people have their faith in me. I can concentrate on one position and try to excel at that.”
