  • Bump- with things winding down for 2011 time to look ahead to 2012. So how many scholarships are we going to have ? It looks like we will only lose 13 or so from the Senior class...is that correct ??

Other than WR what are our pressing needs?? OL?? Do we look at taking 2 QB'S???

Can we expect to get an early stud like LT or WG ??

  • Very interesting post from another site. We are being noticed, I'm telling you. Coach D is offering kids early in the process in Ohio for 2012. We have offered every kid early on down there. Good things to come. They remember who offered early or first so maybe we get more visits/interest because of it.

Spartans getting head start? … As we rapidly approach National Signing Day for the Class of 2011, guess which school is the most active in Ohio when it comes to working on the Class of 2012?

Hint: The school in not located in Ohio.

    It’s Michigan State.

Here are some examples: We all know the Buckeyes are interested and may offer Cincinnati Moeller wide receiver Monty Madaris, Cleveland Heights offensive lineman Kyle Dodson and Trotwood Madison safety Bam Bradley.

The Spartans have already offered all three. A source privy to the Michigan State staff’s way of thinking says the following: “They know to have any chance of beating Ohio State they have to get in there first.”

One might think the Spartans are discouraged after coming so close to netting Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary defensive back Doran Grant, a Spartans legacy who recently chose Ohio State over Michigan State. In fact, it’s quite the opposite. Spartans staffers see their ability to hang in until the end as a positive.

Bradley will be an interesting test case. Trotwood Madison coach Mo Douglass said he’s been told Bradley is the No. 1 safety on Ohio State’s Class of 2012 board. Yet the Spartans have offered. The Buckeyes have not. That could change soon as Ohio State visited Trotwood Madison today to check on the safety one scout told us “is a lot like Jermale Hines” and could end up in a ‘star’ type role.

Another guy to keep an eye on is Corey Smith of Buchtel. The junior wide receiver is one of the top three receiver prospects in the state (along with Madaris and Dwayne Stanford of Cincinnati Taft). Michigan State offer? Check. Ohio State offer? Pending.

To put a 2011 spin on it, Aundrey Walker could be an interesting one. Most expect him to be a Buckeye. The offensive lineman is on the production end of the Glenville Pipeline. Way back when, the Spartans were the first to offer Walker and he had them as his favorite at one point in the process. If he does pull the surprise and ink with the Spartans, their rising confidence will peak.

    Stay tuned …

  • I would guess that 2012 is going to be a year where we look at a lot of out of state guys. I hate to say it, but I think um is going to get most of the top prospects in michigan next year. They were already set to land a few of them, and now everybody seems to be so gaga over Mattison, I think it spells trouble for us. However, we can pick our spots and still end up with a great class. We're going to go really hard at Norfleet the RB, and it seems we've got the early lead with him. Right now, I say we also get Latta, Blackburn and the tall WR from Lansing, Efe, or something like that, someone on here has been talking about Jabari Green at DT, so we'll be alright. Losing out on some of the detroit kids isn't the worst thing, though, as we should be pretty attractive to some big name out of state talent. I think we're going to have another really strong class at RB, and we should be able to keep bring in LBs, and we've certainly got the room for top tier DBs.

Just my initial thoughts about 2012. I've been wanting to talk about this for a while. As you guys know, I'm far from an expert. What do you guys think, do we have a chance at winning the in state recruiting battle?

    Thepostmen

  • I do know that Ohio is absolutely loaded next year with talent. We are in early with all of them meaning we'll get them to our camp and jr days etc. Not sure why so many are quick to throw in the towel vs um on recruiting before the fight even begins. They are a mess right now and can offer playing time, a big stadium and fancy helmets.

I'm excited about Burbridge from Harrison. He looked very polished in the state championship game. Really stood out.

    xGASMANx

  • Oh yea, Burbridge looked awesome in the state championship, and I bet we get him, Harrison is all about MSU. I remember playing against the great Agim Shabaj.

I think we're in on some great local prospects, but it seems to me that the top guys, Richardson, Ross, and Jenkins-Stone, are all going to go to um. Now, I think we'll clean up after that, but those might be the top three players in the state. I really don't know, that's just the way it seems. And Ohio is totally stacked next year, and we are going to end up with some of those players. There are so many good RBs in Ohio, they can't take them all, and Kaleb Ringer is one of the top players in the state and he could end up here.

    Thepostmen

  • Other than Jenkins-Stone or Ross, I haven't heard of any UM 'leans' for 2012.

Edit: Forgot Richardson, though he's got some pretty big out of state offers too. Neither is guaranteed with him.

  • I think O Brien and Godin are UM leans also. OBrien likes Tenn too but I think he ends up at UM.

    Robertoo

  • The WR position is an interesting one to watch, 3 top notch guys with Spartan connections. Smith and Adams from Butchel, Madris from Greg Jones' school along with Marcus Rush and I know Burbridge is friends with Dell who also obviously went to Harrison. I hope we can take all 3, prob only 2 though.

  • ATH Dennis Norfleet and DT Matt Godin received offers today. Were there any others given out that anyone knows of?

  • It looks like MSU has around 6 offers out right now to the State of Michigan 2012 class.

Ross- LB (Major Offers: MSU, UofM, Purdue, Cincy)
Latta- OL (Major Offers: MSU and Wisconsin)
Bullough- S (Major Offers: MSU and Iowa)
Godin- DT (Major Offers: MSU, Cincy, Duke, Buffalo)
    Norfleet- RB (Major Offers: MSU)
    Burbridge- WR (Major Offers: MSU)

As mentioned Bullough, Norfleet, and Burbrige seem like MSU leans right now. Ross and Godin seem like UofM leans. And Latta seems to be an unknown at this time.

Known offers from yesterday's Jr. Day at MSU :

DT Jaleel Johnson - Winchester St. Jospeh's (IL)
DT Matt Godin - Detroit Catholic Central (MI)
RB Dennis Norfleet - Detroit King (MI)
OG Dan Voltz - Barrington (IL)
S Riley Bullough - Traverse City St. Francis (MI)

Terry Richardson from Cass didn't receive an offer yesterday but was told that after Signing Day he'd be offered. Guess he was upset that he didn't get an offer that day.

I know Kelby. He said that last spring, but I haven't talked to him in a while and have no clue where he is leaning, nor do his friends the last time I talked to them.

Cass is all UM, all the time, unless an SEC school comes in. No sense in wasting recruiting efforts there. Jenkins-Stone and Richardson will be Wolvies; big fight will be for Ross, but he's intimidated by the LB talent MSU has compiled for the past 2-3 classes.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • What's the logic in telling a recruit they'll receive an offer, but it won't come till after signing day? Not trying to question the approach, just trying to understand why.

Obviously you really know your stuff CBD but I have heard something else about Richardson. From what I have heard I am not sure he has the size that the staff is looking for in a CB.

You mean like all the past Cass Tech CBs?

    5'8 Cissoko
    5'8 Mathis
    5'8 Hollowell

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

    SpartanRocky

  • I know we recruited Mathis hard. But did we even offer Hollowell?

And I don't remember us going too hard after Cissoko as well.

Roderick Maples was Cass. I don't think that we're out of play on any schools in state anymore.

That's something I've heard also. In person he appeared to be more like 5'-7". Nuff said.
