  • SIAP, but is there a list of visitors for the weekend? I know we got Jackson, Winston and Horne coming into EL.

Are there any unexpected guests that made the trip?

  • Can someone with actual knowledge give me some insight on what a typical recruiting weekend looks like at MSU (in detail)? What about compared to other schools(if you have actual knowledge)? How about a weekend like this when there is no basketball (ahem, Izzo - get with the program - no open dates in January, get a patsy in there). don't let the last point digress from my real questions.

Disagree. Most of the talent of that 09 class (Maxwell, Treadwell, Spencer, Baker, Norman, Caper, ect.) committed in spring/summer. They were already in the fold before the 2008 season started, hell before the 2008 class was even on campus.

And the guy I quoted talked about the "program" which I was referencing. Not coaching experience. While it was great they went to the Champs Sports Bowl, MSU football had not turned any corner in early 2008.

Disagree as much as you want. MD had plenty of track record from OSU, UC, and 2 seasons at MSU where he'd taken a 4 - 8 team and turned it into a bowl eligible team immediately, then challenged for the BT title in year two. Chryst has zero HC experience and no NC as a coordinator, just some suspect late drive time management problems.

  • Not 2012 recruiting but Northwestern got Kyle Prater in the transfer from USC. Pretty big if he can stay healthy, won't play until 2013.

Good to see for Northwestern. They need to do well recruiting the "smart" kids in Chicago area and especially the catholic league kids. Keep them away from ND and even scuM for that matter.

Public school Proviso West has pretty good athletes year in and year out. I forgot if this is where Shannon Brown went?

  • They're going to apply for the hardship waiver in hopes he can play in 2012.

    Brown went to Proviso East.

  • Anybody here follow Terrell Jackson on twitter? He posted about an hour ago a sweet picture of Him and "Alabama" who is Winston. Both guys posing in spartan jerseys and helmets in the locker room. Can't be a bad sign eh? Close strong coach D!!

Proviso West produced Spartan legends Flozell Adams and Hubert "Boo Boo" Thompson.

Fitz is building a good program. Landing that linebacker from Ohio was huge, and now this. They will be a team that can consistently win 9 games a year soon.

  • Fitzgerald really wanted MSU QB commit Tyler O'Connor to run his offense. He felt that O'Connor was athletic enough to run NW's offense and already has a stronger arm than Persa or Kafka.

    CoachedByDuffy

  • Fitzs also had the 4 star dt/de Faith Ekakatie sp? ready to commit but didn't get admitted academically to the school. Ended up at Iowa instead They would've had a pretty stellar dline class in the rankings.

I usually root for the other schools to sign talented players helping make the big ten stronger and also my theory is that we don't need scuM to have a cakewalk. The more landmines along the way the better. They are always going to get talent and better if other schools have players to help beat them.

Of course that also means we need to get better and play better every game.

NICE....I didn't know that but I have watched Tyler's highlights: kid is a serious athlete. We haven't had a QB with that skill set since Damon Dowdell. (I kid......I KID!)lol

I have a soft spot for Northwestern so it's cool that Pat Fitzgerald is starting to recruit well but hopefully not at MSU's expense.

At a 4.74 40 time he's not quick enough to be considered a "dual threat" but he's fast enough to get out of the pocket and the footage of him throwing on the run is amazing. Seems impossible to look good throwing across the body at 18 but he does it on the film. His senior highlight reel goes on forever. Kid is absolutely awesome. And we really hooked him up with receivers.
Consider he finished 13th at the Elite 11 competition. If you saw some of the footage that week there were some higher rated guys who they tought didn't look that good all week but still managed to suck up a spot in the final 11. Maybe it was based on their evaluation prior to the event.
Don't forget about Connor Cook who's in the class ahead of him either. He was invited to Elite 11 as well. That dude was really athletic. I don't know shit, just a fan but I feel like we're set for a while at QB.

4.74 is a stupid measure for QBs that aren't Denard because Tyler O'Connor only needs his speed to escape the pocket. He's not going to be sprinting 40 yards down the field.

Yeah I agree. he looks fast out of the pocket and throws darts on the run.

The Urban legend learned his recruiting tactics in the $EC.
He would find room for Cox or Dodson if it came down to the nitty gritty.

    CoachedByDuffy

  • Coach D said a possibility of 20. Horne isn't going to be on scholarship this year, and I'm assuming Cox picks us tomorrow so that gets us to 18. Is it possible that we take two of Dodson, Winston and Jackson if they wanted to commit? God I hope so.

    victory4msu25

  • Victory4MSU25, I think you are right on target. Just reading Jackson's article points to that.

As for O$U, the Plaindealer article on Friday said they were out of scholarships taking into account all of the "attrition" they've experienced and the incoming commitments. Now, one of their commits is supposedly not going to qualify academically for the bucknuts. This opens a spot, so insert Reeves. Urban has to run off players now in order to get down to 82. Plus the B1G office is already looking closely at what is happening at O$U.

In other places, people have said that we could take up to 20 if it's the right kids. I think Dodson and Winston are the right kids. Also, don't sleep on Julian Pinnix-Odrick, MSU has wanted him for a year.
