  • yeah, that list sucks.

Richardson is not top 10. too small.

    SpartanGA

  • I agree Richardson is too small for us, but let's not downplay him just because he's not coming here. He already has been offered by Bama, LSU, Iowa, Pitt and UM offer in imminent.

Not only is he top ten, it's looking like he is top 5. Don't act like a SCum fan just because he doesn't fit our system.

My comment was not purely due to 'our system' (which is BS). Juniors cannot even get official offers until their senior year this year. He is just another CT small DB. IMO.

  • Devin Church from Bother Rice should have an offer from us. TRich looks better as a slot receiver which UofM has too much of, so I dont think he's an automatic commit for UofM, and he's a top five recruit in this state. James Ross is the best prospect. The best running back so far is Norfleet then the kid from Muskegon. WR from East Lansing, MI...not so good he shouldn't be renked over Aaron from Farmington. Again.....I really like the Devin Church kid....seriously, not being bias but he looks better than Terry Richardson to me. State needs to get this kid fast and a hurry!!

  • James Whitemight be someone the staffgoes after. Only one CB this year in Waynes, maybe Arjen gets tried out there? Sounds like a good CB /ATH prospect.

    http://www.buckeyeplanet.com/forum/football-recruiting/618322-2012-out-state-players-watch-4.html

Here with Detroit Crockett WR/DB James White. He is 6-1, 172 pounds and legitimately can play both ways. He had about 70 tackles and nine interceptions as a junior and 75 catches for 753 yards and seven touchdowns.

He could be D1 on both sides of the football, but prefers WR... only slightly. He is definitely open to playing defense as well.

Likes Michigan State because of their coaching staff and Iowa because of their defense. Those schools plus Michigan and Wisconsin round out his top four. He has already visited all of his top four schools.

Other schools he is hearing from include Ohio State, Florida and Alabama.

He knows Philadelphia Eagles defensive end Brandon Graham real well (played at the same school) and considers him a mentor.

    2012 CBs on MSU's roster

    RS SR: Johnny Adams
    True SR: none
RS Jr: Mitchell White, Dana Dixon
    True Jr: Darqueeze Dennard
    RS Soph: Mylan Hicks
    RS Frosh: Trae Waynes
    True Frosh: ??

Plus Roger Williamson could play CB or S. 6 CBs for the 2012 Season and 5 for 2013 if we take none in the 2012 class (I'm sure we'll take 2). Seem to be OK on CB depth if we take 2. Shouldn't need to take 6 DBs in one class a la UM this year.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.

  • Very mature of richardson... Makes u wonder if size is the only thing keeping him away from an offer.

Winston is a new name besides him pretty standard list with all the usual names.

  • Question about Ross: he's only 6' tall and 210. is he blazing fast? that's not a big linebacker to be ranked #1 in the state hands down coming into next year.

    what makes him special?

How many scholarships do we have to offer?

Rumor is that the State of Michigan is deeper than usual with talent in 2012.

Dorsey on SpartanMag was saying 13 seniors on scholarship & with normal attrition/ injuries, he was saying about 18 or 19 scholarships for 2012. Anybody seen or heard anything different for next year?

Link hijacked by this POS site! Posted info below.

    fromMatt Dorsey
    SpartanMag.com

Michigan State signed 21 players yesterday for the class of 2011. The Staff is already actively evaluating players for the class of 2012 and has extended scholarships to several players who meet key positional needs. SpartanMag.com takes a look at how the class of 2012 could breakdown from a position standpoint.

Looking at the current roster the Spartans should be very close to the 85 man scholarship limit come this fall. Coach Dantonio may reward a few scholarships to walk-ons. Scholarships are year to year so in order to stay on scholarship they will need to stay in the two deeps.

The Spartans will have 13 seniors on scholarship next year, which means that they will not be signing a large "SEC style" class in 2012. With normal attrition and injury departure, I expect the number to be around 18-19 scholarships available.

  • Well, Richardson got his offer from us.

    WavSpartan

  • Why would we want Blackburn, who is more a spread QB when our system is best for a pocket / pro-style QB? I'm sure the kid is good, but he does not seem to fit the MSU system.

This is not cut and dry. There are many steps in-between a cannot run pure Pro-style QB to a run first spread QB. Having the ability to scramble is a great asset. Cousins leans more towards the traditional pro style. Having one in the middle would be nice. I have heard Cook can scramble pretty well.

He is a pro-style QB, but also has the ability to scramble when pressured. Most analysts were comparing him to Josh Freeman, a pass first QB that can run if need be. I would love to see a 6'6 QB with a big arm that can move the pocket in our offense.

Edit: Hopefully this helps clear up why we are looking at him as a QB. Also take note how he picks up low/botched snaps and finds an open receiver quickly and fires a strike. Certainly looks the part of a pro-style QB to me...http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HR07bARDCtw

Just because he's black doesn't make him a spread-style QB. lol

6-6, nice arm, frame to put on a lot of muscle. Looks like Boisture pt. 2 to me.

    Good Post.

I could see MSU trying to take Burbridge, Funchess, and Ojemudia out of FHH this year. Ojemudia is about the same size as CJ Olaniyan from a couple years ago.

I still think Stone and Richardson go to UM. If Hoke wants them, Wilcher will do everything he can to deliver them.

I hope Deback is good enough to get an offer. With only one in '11 I think they will want to take 2 Tackles this year.

Still a lot of great player not on that list that I think could go to MSU or other Big Ten schools.

uh, Boisture transferred...didnt pan out. Lets not use that comparison.

    SpartanGA

  • He transferred because he was going to get to be the starter here for 1 year at best, he was still a great prospect coming out of HS. You can't say he didn't "pan out" yet.

  • When he committed Maxwell wasn't the clear heir to the qb spot like he is now. Either way doesn't have anything to do with comparing Boisture and Blackburn as recruits. Boisture was an elite 11 guy.

signature image signature image signature image

    Btothejizer

  • Just a word on the mobile QB thing; MD wants a mobile QB for the future. Bolden was the #1 choice of the staff to challenge Maxwell, not Boisture, because of the contrasting style. It was only after Bolden went to PSU (due to daddy dearest being a scumbag) that Boisture gave us a call.

Michigan State does not and will not run the 3-4 defense.
