'12 IN SG Gary Harris (MSU - Signed LOI)

  • Does anyone have any video of Harris from this camp?

  • He was one of Dave Telep's standout players from the 3rd day of the LBJ academy:

There aren't many wasted possessions with this efficient shooting guard. There's a purposeful way about his game. Known for his stroke, he played in attack mode and finished with toughness. On drives, he was strong with the ball all the way to the rim and his game translates to every major program in America; he's that talented.

Kaminski gets a small mention in the notes as well

I think you're looking at it the wrong way. The coaches that don't miss a game are the ones who think they are going to land him, when they realize they aren't they may focus their attention elsewhere. Painter was at all of Dawsons games from like 8th grade until the weeks leading up to his announcement when he obviously realized he was MSU bound. Which is why I think Crean skipping watching Harris, not just because he had other commitments but to watch some class of '15 guys play, could be telling.

Crean did make it to Akron to watch Harris at the LBJ Academy, he just wasn't in for the morning drills, .etc with Izzo and Painter...

  • Tom Crean was at North Central tonight to watch a smaller AAU tournament. He came to watch the 14u championship game, not sure who participated in that.

He stayed to watch Indiana Elite Team Indiana(the one that features a bunch of IU guys) beat the Michigan Mustangs for the tourney title. According to JamieOwens, Gary Harris showed up to watch IE too.

I think Indiana is still in the race for Harris.

    Definitely still in the race.

But it should also be noted Izzo was there as well...

Anyone is naive to think Indiana is backing off of Harris. I've said this plenty of times, but I still believe it comes down to Michigan State and Indiana.

"...And the MSU coaches are busy looking at other players for down the line, including one in Chicago and one in Minnesota but they know the competition is fierce."

Assuming the 'down the line' thing means 2013(Parker)? Who is from MN though?

Not sure about are scholarship situation and it's so hard to guess what it's going to be in the future but could you see us taking two smalls in drake Harris , and tyus jones 2014.. Both seem to like us right now.

There has been speculation that Izzo will bypass getting a pg in 2013, with Appling, Trice and Valentine already in the fold, and if Tyus Jones is donning the Green and White come 2014, you can obviously see why Izzo is willing to do so.

I hope that would be the case, and if that's true what in your mind would we take in 2013?

He was playing his typical elite level basketball in Orlando. In one game against the CP3 All Stars he had 26 points, eight rebounds, six assists and four blocked shots, 3 of those blocks came against Rodney Purvis.

  • GH was included in Dave Telep's list of players to watch from the 2012 class, the list is pretty much a who's who of uncommitted players in the 2012 class

Telep: "Indiana and Purdue took a ton of early commitments, but neither landed Harris, Indy's top prospect. Will he see room for himself at those schools, or will he venture out to places like Michigan State, Louisville, Illinois, Notre Dame or Michigan? Harris is smooth, mature and easy for other guys to play with. He can score for any team in America."

Brennan: If Indiana lands Harris, it would only add to what Telep and his colleagues believe to be the best 2012 recruiting class in the country. It would also be a major blow to Purdue, which will see the aforementioned departures of star players Moore, Johnson and Hummel coincide with Tom Crean's emergence as a major force in the state's loaded recruiting scene. It would also make IU an immediate Big Ten title contender in 2012-13, something Hoosiers fans are desperate to experience after years of Mike Davis- and Kelvin Sampson-induced turmoil. But with all those talented players already in the fold, might Harris find the idea of playing at Purdue a more attractive option? Or will he go out of the state entirely?

The recent reports also confirm that the family would like to get this done in the November signing period if possible. I don't think head-to-head matchups and the 2011-2012 seasons will be factors.

  • Kind of crazy that no matter what this dude will be playing in the Big Ten. I'm not sure what kind of talent Purdue has in the pipeline, but it seems Harris could be a deciding factor in who runs the show for the next couple years in the conference between IU and MSU (of course, OSU is always going to be a factor, as well).
