    Wouldn't that be illegal?

    No.

Wear a lot of MSU gear. Even if you don't talk to him at all, you can recruit subliminally.

  • Anthony Soloman has "coincidentally" been at the gym working with his son, the same time D has been working out. Soloman is an assistant coach for ND and their lead recruiter for Jackson. I know Jackson is their #1 target. Also after talking with his trainer, Kansas has been showing quite a bit of interest.

Oh no.. this could be trouble.

  • if anything it would be putting ND in a hard position. Soloman can't even talk to jackson without it being official. Heck urban was in trouble for saying good luck to a kid in passing, so if Soloman even looks at jackson without it being documented nd will get in trouble. I understand being around him cant be bad for ND, but I just feel like this could lead to more trouble than its worth for them.

  • His son is in the same basketball program that Jackson is. Michiana Basketball Academy, so it's not unreasonable for him to be there. I just thought it funny that 3 times this past week, it was the same time Jackson was there working out. I didn't see any communication between the two. I did speak to Soloman and his son a couple of times because I coach him in the winter. BTW, his son is gonna be a heck of a ball player....

I assume you're talking ab ICE? I'll have to look out for the state apparel if so.

  • Sounds like we are losing ground with him - he was quoted as saying that Illinois, ND, Louisville, and Kansas were recruiting him the hardest, anyone know what we aren't more in the picture?

It almost has to be the staff's confidence about Tyus Jones and the '13/'14 point guard situation. It's the best (but not the only) explanation.

This and, IMHO, with Valentine coming in this year, it makes more since to take a PG in the '14 rather than the '13 class. Hope it doesn't come back to bite us in the ass but, as always, I'll trust in Izzo and the staff.

The only problem with this is that if Jones is as good as advertised he might only be around for a year or two. Not getting Jackson could hurt us down the line if that were to happen because he doesn't look like a guy that would be leaving early.

  • I'll be a fan of this kid wherever he ends up. He seems to have a really good head on his shoulders and is a high character kid...To me he seems like an Izzo type of player, in one of his interviews he said his greatest strength is his leadership ability. I understand why we would be cooling on him just because it would be so hard to pass up on a kid like Tyus Jones, even if it is only for a year or two.

That's a fair point but that'd be a great problem to have. If keeping the PG position open helps land Tyus, I think Izzo will accept that as the price of doing business. For Izzo at almost 60, his best shot at a 2014 title run (Jones + Okafor(?)) is more important than 2015 "what if's" (Jackson).

Well said - the kid sounds like a great kid and is really blowing up. Seems like the kind of guy that wants the ball in his hands at the end of a game. I really wanted this kid, and still hope we land him, but where ever he lands I wish him well.

    I don't understand this sentiment.

Kids with one-and-done talent come every year. Why would you worry about the "after" if you're getting a bona fide stud? If anything, it'll show high-level recruits MSU is a place that reloads every year or two, boosting Izzo and as another strong pre-NBA option. Landing Tyus is no cause for concern in any way.

That being said, Demetrius or Tyus would be great fits in EL.

I never said that landing Tyus would be "cause for concern". I am simply pointing out that not landing Jackson in this class could leave a hole at the PG position down the line. If not getting Jackson means that we get Jones and then maybe get Okafor too then it would probably be more than worth it.

Also, I am sure the coaches are always worried about the "after". In fact that is what recruiting is all about. You have to worry about the "after" if you want to have an elite program.
