  • Interview with Tyus Jones. Doesn't talk about his college choices but he sounds like a good, humble kid. Hopefully our family atmosphere sways him towards us

    It would be a shame for sure. Seems like a good kid. That being said we are looking at Lyle which is either the #2 or #3 PG I believe. It's really sad Duke can just come in to the Midwest and get who they want. ( If he does go to them)

  • Izzo is going to stop and see him tomorrow while in Minneapolis as well. Two contacts with the same recruit in one week. I would say that confirms him as a top priority for us.

    Yeah, I think we are going to be looking at a few #1 recruiting classes in a row coming up in the next few years. It seems like Izzo is recruiting harder than ever before.

    In terms of average talent (or stars, whatever), maybe so. But I don't think we'll be getting a "#1 recruiting class". You have to sign like 5 guys to do that and right now the team is too stable to sign that many people.

    Well, what I meant is getting a considerable amount of 5 stars over the course of the next few seasons. More than the couple we get every few years previously.

    But still, you're telling me if Parker and Young and maybe Jackson commit, that that won't be considered a possible #1 recruiting class?

    And in 14 State has a legit shot (green_koolaid) at getting commitments from Jones, Harris, Alexander, Okafor, and Lyle. Yeah, that's a number 1 class.

  • I wonder how much the big ten network is having an impact on recruiting in the Midwest. Kids like this have probably seen a ton of b1g basketball games in the past several years. It has to have an impact.

    Well at least he knows which team will get him in the tournament now between the two of us....

    Let's hope he makes the right decision. We could use a guy like him - he seems like a great basketball player, and Izzo could help him reach his very best potential.

    Five five-star players. 2014 will be the year of the green five. We will likely lose 3-5 players from the previous team and these boys can step right into a veteren squad.

    Dream 2014 class:

    PG: Jones
    SG: Lyle
    SF: Harris
    PF: Alexander
    C: Okafor

  • It looks like Michigan State and Duke lead the early recruiting sweepstakes for Apple Valley sophomore point guard Tyus Jones, with Minnesota in third place. Jones made an unofficial visit to East Lansing the other day, and Duke is said to be willing to bypass the signing of any other point guards if Jones will commit.

    When the St. Louis Rams decided to trade the No. 2 overall pick in Aprilt have much leverage left to trade down for more picks.

  • Tyus's team lost in the Section Finals to Eastview 57-53. Jones finished with 20 points and led a comeback from 12 down in the second half, but missed a game tying layup with under 10 seconds left.

    Well, that is fantastic.

    Two thoughts:

    1) if he is really serious about MSU, how much love do we give to Demetrius Jackson? He might not be too keen on us taking another PG the year before him.

    2) I think the Austin Rivers bouncing early helps us. If he stayed even two years, Duke might have been able to hold off on recruiting another big name PG in next year's class to entice Tyus. I don't think they have that luxury anymore and we have options at PG that don't seem to be going anywhere for the immediate future.

    I'm not even clear why we are taking a run at Demetrius Jackson. When he comes in Appling will be a Senior, Trice a Junior, and Valentine a Sophomore. 2014 would seem to make more sense to pick up a point guard.
