MISHAWAKA, IND. -- Spartan Tailgate traveled to Indiana Tuesday to watch 2013 Mishawaka (Ind.) Marian PG Demetrius Jackson and get his thoughts on the Spartans.
I've seen this kid play a lot. I'd love to see him green. ND is recruiting him hard, but he is also good friends with Gary Harris. Jackson dropped in 30 last night, following up a 42 pt performance from last Friday.
I haven't seen him play, but everything I read makes this kid sound great. I am just curious about the PG situation and how it effects the Jones recruitment. Will Jones come to a school that has a good senior, junior and sophomore PG, assuming Jackson commits?
He dropped 19 pts and 8 rebs and 8 assits last night. For once one of his teammates was on fire too. Think he had 22.
Here is a link.
I LOVE athletic point guards. I had no idea how athletic Jackson is; check this out.
Sick, rad, amazing dunk by Demetrius Jackson.

South Bend Washington @ (Mishawaka) Marian
Final Score: 63-61 (Washington)
Demetrius Jackson is currently being recruited by Notre Dame, Xavier and Michigan State.

...and this; kid has some serious ups...
Demetrius Jackson doesn't disappoint in the last game ever at St. Joe's Alumni Gym.
Marian defeated St. Joe 64-49.

His stature already looks like Sharron Collins, but he's 3 inches taller. He could get BIG with a couple years of college weight training. I want him... worry about 2014 next year.
This kid has STUD written all over him. He has a little bit of a Russell Westbrook feel to me, a little bit of a tweener and a little shorter than him, but attacks that rim and has great handles on the ball. Sign me up.
Had this thought over the weekend. I'm no insider so this may be completely off base.
But what if Izzo told Jackson that he's going to recruit him hard but ultimately may or may not get a committable offer based on how Valentine does playing PG during summer and first month of practice?
Izzo tells him if you want to come here, hold off on your decision until Nov signing day and you'll have your answer from me...unfortunately, if you commit elsewhere I'll focus my efforts on other players???

"The rule of thumb is to avoid Tom Izzo and Michigan State like the plague." - Catspause.com, March 2009.
So would this mean that he would not be able to ride the team bus to games? That sounds like a deal breaker to me. Maybe Izzo is working out a deal with CATA.
Great article about the relationship he has with Fife
Jackson is one of the nation's top recruits in the 2013 class, and Spartans coach Tom Izzo's staff has gotten his attention by offering a scholarship along with some advice he took to heart.
That is a very positive article for us. It seems like there is a very good chance that he will be a Spartan.
I'm not sure...I think Izzo really has his heart set on Tyus Jones in 14' and taking Jackson would create quite a log jam at PG
Not necessarily. Getting Jackson would mean moving Valentine over to the wing, not getting Jackson would mean that Valentine gets minutes at the 1. Either way, there would be two other guys at the 1 besides Tyus on the team (and either way, Tyus would be the #1 PG on the team).

He's got serious hops I'd love to have him. I think it's still going to be tough to beat the home town school in ND but the longer it goes I think the better our chances are
I think Izzo still remembers all too well how the Marcus Taylor/Anthony Roberson succession worked-out and won't let himself get caught without a PG again.
You are forgetting Appling in 2013. That would be Appling, Trice, Valentine (maybe), and Jackson at PG in 2013...Best case for Jackson is that he is the third PG as a frosh, with the #1 PG in the country possibly coming in the next season, not exactly ideal for playing time IMO
Jackson at the 2, Valentine at the 3. They can replace Harris/Dawson.
He had an MSU t-shirt on at the gym last week. FWIW...
