You can't make this crap up. 90% of Chicago teachers voted to strike (before negotiations are even finished..btw) because they want a 30% raise over 2 years. They are refusing arbitration too.
What makes you think they deserve such a huge raise, you ask?
Average teacher salary is $76K plus benefits (100K total package) One on the highest drop out rates in the nation One of the poorest performing school districts in the nation City of Chicago is broke and in debt
Well...of course they deserve 30% more..they are doing such a fantastic job. This is what happens when democrats have a monopoly.

That is not standard operating procedure. First you negotiate then if the deal is not cut then you can go to arbitration and an authorizing a strike is a last resort. They went there first in an effort t o strong arm the city. Its thug union politics at its worst. Makes you wonder why anybody supports public unions anymore. Who makes 100k in pay and benefits and works 9 month out the year..and is accountable to no one for how crappy a job they do. Then demands a 30% raising an the midst of a recession and city shortfall of funds of 600 million. This is demm run city and is really shows.

So lets just give one of the best paid school teachers in the nation a 30% raise over 2 years..when they make on AVERAGE $76K/yr plus cushy benefits and pensions. Then let them continue to produce one of the nations worst results and dropout rates. Sounds like a sound plan there.

When you lay it out like that it really looks ridiculous...
I will be interested to see how Rahm reacts to this.... Putting political alliances aside, I really liked how Rahm has come into office and the work he has done.... I just moved from Chicago, but was slightly optimistic with Rahm there....
The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.

Chicago teachers vote to strike if they don't get a 30% raise
