Christopher Hitchens has died

  • Say what you will on his stance on the Iraq War, but he was a very important figure in our public political discourse.

    A true legend, imo.

  • Wow...sad to hear. Agreed with him wholeheartedly at times. And shook my head in disgust at others. Regardless...a brilliant mind. We need more Chris Hitchens' to keep the juices flowing...

Oh yeah...one of my favorite pictures of me was taken in Beijing in Tiananmen Square. I was flying solo...asked a native to take a picture of me...end result was a pasty white guy with Mao's shrine in the background with Hitchens' "Why Orwell Matters" clearly visible in my hand.

Didn't think anything about it until I got home and had the pictures developed. Took one look at it and said...perfect...

  • Very Sad. Hitch will be missed. In his honor here is a good video of some of his better "Hitchslaps":

  • I'm really pretty upset by this. I'm a Catholic who is pretty firm in his belief, but as a person who thinks the world has not enough intellectual discourse, I had nothing but the utmost respect for Mr. Hitchens. Believer or not, he was one of the world's sharpest thinkers and orators and he was just damn interesting.

    RIP

...beyond a stretch of Maryland pines there's a river without a name.

  • Same here. I didn't always agree with Hitchens but I was often very impressed with his insight and ability to write. His scathing wit nearly disproved the old maxim "sticks and stones can break my bones but words can never hurt me". Some of his words MUST have hurt his targets. lol

  • RIP Mr Hitchens, your writing was always both entertaining and thought provoking

  • Great Hitchens quote I just came across and will use myself,
“I don’t usually start this early,” he said, his glass already gratefully extended, “but holding yourself to a drinking schedule is always the first sign of alcoholism.”

  • Great guy, but thankfully on my dead pool list.

His audiobook reading of God is Not Great is worth picking up if you haven't heard it.

  • God bless you Mr Hitchens.

He's now up in Heaven where he belongsthumbsup

  • Christopher Hitchens was a man of great intellectual courage who hated evil and could say so like few can. A brilliant light has been extinguished. He will be missed.

    R.I.P. Christopher Hitchens.

We've lost a great intellect. Attached is a collection of some of his best writing.

I'm impressed that the thumpers haven't stomped in here to condemn him....

WTF is this supposed to mean?

This guy absolutely eviscerated the Left's position regarding the multiculti stance regarding political Islam.

You're surprised that those of faith aren't on here bashing Hitchens?

I'm here waiting to witness the lefties castigate his not so politically correct positions regarding Islam, the Iraq War, etc...

You're conflating bible thumper with conservative. There is a large intersection of the two groups, but there are also bible thumpers who are apolitical and bible thumpers who vote democrat.
