CNN just said that every elementary school across the country is locked. Is that true? People need to be buzzed in at elementary schools every day?
"Put your mother in a straight-jacket you punk ass white boy." ~ Mike Tyson
My kid's school is like that. Not that some idiot couldn't take out the office staff and buzz himself in.
The real issue here is so dynamic, I am willing to bet there are psychological and/or economic issues involved with the shooter. Gun control is only part post the solution to doing shootings like this in the future. Stiffer gun control may curb the obsession with guns, but crazy, broken down people would still act violently. Our country does not do a very good job with dealing with any of these issues, which lead to a large amount of random gun violence.
I'd argue violence in general. Again we focus an awful lot on the tool in this country. Gun powder is a relatively new idea, but murder has been around since the beginning.
Damn... where do you live that there are just a bunch of James Bonds walking around that could infiltrate a locked building stealthily take out the office staff then unnecessarily "buzz himself in" then go on a rampage?
I don't know about other places, but where my wife works the front door is the only one not locked. You can still walk in but should be seen by the office.
The only gun control that MIGHT prevent an occasional one of these things is giving more teeth to the enforcement of existing gun laws, if we want to keep these guys in prison. The old outlawed guns=outlaws with guns thing does hold a lot of truth. I just don't believe gun laws are a factor in 99% of these cases.
This is sarcastic, right?
child confirmed dead
Thank you for posting this. When are we going to start looking at this from the angle that it is also mental health issue and not just a gun issue?
The US does a poor job of providing access to mental health care, and current laws tie the hands of law enforcement and doctors from making it easier to commit and treat people who exhibit and/or express a tendency toward violence in response to their mental health issues. The VA Tech and Aurora, CO shootings could have been prevented if we had a better system of mental health care in this country and if law enforcement and medical providers had an easier way to get sick people committed so they can get the mental health help they need.
"You know, Ted, I'd really like to shoot up this school."
"Uh, Chuck, isn't it illegal to carry a gun into the school?"
"Oh yeah. Nevermind then."
I've watched literally every episode of Law and Order: SVU seasons 1-12... and if there's one thing I'm certain of its that the law does NOT make it too easy for the legal system to commit bad guys to mental health institutions AND when they do the bad guys can and will just fake like they're better leave quickly and immediately go right back to being bad guys.
Nice try you liberal pansy.
OH GOD BOB!

Nuts will be nuts.
From Yahoo! News: BEIJING (Reuters) - A knife-wielding man slashed 22 children and an adult at an elementary school in central China on Friday, state media reported, the latest in a series of attacks on schoolchildren in the country. The man attacked the children at the gate of a school in Chenpeng village in Henan province, the Xinhua news agency reported. Police arrested a 36-year-old man, identified as villager Min Yingjun, Xinhua said. It did not give further details of the extent of the injuries. ...
Having two elementary aged kids, this story is making me cry. School is such a happy place for them.
have they announced who the shooter was?
I'm going 3/1 on crazy hermit looking janitor.
Shit man you're an expert of law and order SVU, and you're calling ppl out for being pansys about mental health issues in America?
What else has fictionl television taught you?
None of this would've happened if Linda McMahon were elected senator. The crazy person would've just used steel folding chairs instead.
Yeah, because so many criminals have them. No gun-control laws are going to take the guns out of the hands of the criminals.
Gun control freaks would like it to be an upstanding citizen who snapped and used the only thing possible to kill people with.
All too easy.
This sounds horribly cliche', but, people who live outside of the law, don't give a shit about more restrictive gun laws. What the media should stop doing is interviewing all the friends and family of the poor, poor shooter, after the fact. Quit giving them face time. I don't f*cking care that he was the nicest, quietest, most loveable psychopath that anyone could ever know...
