Because without Jesus dying for all our sins, we would not have the luxury to spin wonderful tales of what we would want to do to your mother.
UM, Green Bay and Chicago teams all have one thing in common: They all suck

Yes. I also believe in vampires, warewolves, and Spider-Man.
Well, it's good to know Big Ten Referee has outdone two millenia of human thought and reason in an hour of reading the Bible. If only you had been around from the beginning, we never would've had to deal with all those pesky philosophers, scholastics, and scientists!
So, have you announced your findings to the world yet, or are you waiting to hear back from the publisher for exclusive rights to your book deal?
Shut the fuck up or I will find you and make you my slave. You will be mine for 6 years.
You drive a hot rod? Word. I see someone else already mentioned Ministry but I wanted in on it too.
Uh, I'm not a big religious guy but you are terribly off base.
1 guy did not write the Bible.
Do you know there is an Old Testament and a New Testament? Do you know there are several books with different authors?
The Bible should not be the only thing you take into account with Christianity. There was a ton of stuff left out and lumped in because of political pressure. Those that won out got their way and it happened several times hundreds of years after Jesus was alive. To think that what you're reading was just some dude that put it together is just foolish.
Again, not a big religious guy but at least take a class or do anything in relation to Christianity to better educate yourself. It would be like some religious person say that evolution didn't happen because we didn't evolve from an ant into a human being while leaving out the rest of the theory developed by modern science.
I wish more people with critical thinking skills understood how the bible was put together in the first place.
It was a hundred years before pen met paper in any sense. It was 400 years before a church tribunal put together the bible. It was 1500+ years before King James made his version.
You do the math. There were 100s of gospels that got "passed over" or "thrown out" by the Council of Nicea.
There probaby is a God, or a force, or whatever the hell you want to call it.
But it ain't in any book, I don't care the source. It's in your heart. You either feel it, or you don't. Then you die. Get over it.
I appreciate how Thomas Jefferson used critical thinking skills to tear it apart. His version is much more "reason"able.
Jesus should come back from the dead and rewrite it, then. Because those who wrote it were batshit fucking crazy.
Yes. Since MD brought the Spartan FB program back from the dead anything is possible.

No, they were very smart. It accomplished their goal by leaps and bounds.
It is and always has been about control. Religion can be perverted to the extreme, and it can make people do crazy things. From Charles Manson to 9/11 and everything in between.
If you can tie something to the concept of "forever," you can manipulate a hell of a lot of people and get rich beyond your wildest dreams. See mega-churches, the 700 club, Billy Graham, or any number of other examples in other faiths. Convince a man he can have eternal freedom and whatever he wants after he dies, and you can get him to do anything while he's still alive.
So the people who wrote the bible were the first life insurance salesmen?
hoke- to alter or manipulate so as to give a deceptively or superficially improved quality or value.
Those that wrote it were actually educated for their time. As educated for their time as those that put together theories that we use to judge what is happening millions upon millions of light years away.
he built my hot rod.
I have a headache. I think I'll perform some bloodletting. That'll get rid of it.
Divine architect. He did destroy the temple and rebuild it in 3 days.
The people that wrote books included into the Bible had no idea they would be included in the Bible. They would be dead for hundreds of years. They also wrote from different perspectives, time periods, and locations. To think these "life insurance salesmen" got together to plan this all out is hilarious.
I guess they were so great at planning that they understood the great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren of those around them would pick out certain books to include. Then, the splitting of the church by those great, great, great, great, great, great, great grandchildren. Then, they amazingly predicted another 1,000 years into the future beyond that when the Protestants reformed the church.
Your argument shouldn't be with the "life insurance salesmen" but with those that politically cut and pasted the Bible together and then those that split from the church into the East/West, and then those that left the Catholic Church. This isn't even bringing up all those crazy people out in Utah that have Jesus Camps.
There is no evidence that this is true. We have had very few true visionaries who understood these things that you speak of.
Hell, the Church wanted to burn Copernicus at the stake because he said the Sun was at the center of our solar system, which conflicted with the bible and the "word of God."
Now, we can just look at it and tell he was right.
The "Bible" was written by 100s of people, then voted on by a council 400 years after the life of Christ. Then translated for all the Bible nuts by a king in the 1500s.
The authors were not visionaries like you describe. They were just storytellers. Very big difference. I can't wait until 2,000 years from now when people are worshipping at the altar of Twilight and the upcoming armageddon between Edward and Jacob.
Well this is a fun argument. The Old Testament was composed over hundreds of years and was primarily carried on through oral tradition and copying by scribes. This tradition did have an established canon which is very similar to what is in ours modern day Bible. Some books were debated and the Jews and Catholics each have a slightly differ canon from Protestant Christianity. The earliest OT Hebrew texts we have are from a couple hundred years AD. We have Greek copies which date in the BC and are pretty darn near close.
The first Gospel and Epistle texts are between 50-70 AD. Thats about 20 years after Christ. Many other Gospels started to pop up about a hundred years or more later and were thrown out. This was mainly because what they wrote was not congruent with the earlier texts from the actual witnesses. The Gnostics had a doctrine very similar to Platonist thought and were responsible for a good deal of these. Gnosticism was around in the time of Christ and Paul speaks out against their doctrine.
Nicaea formally established something that had been mostly set for quite a while. The books that get brought up today were no where near getting canonized. They were largely heretical works that had been condemned by a high majority of the early church.
You are correct. They did not know they would be included in a grand book called "the Bible."
But they did use their own writings in their own time to control a subset of the population, and to have followers and get what they wanted out of life.
Very few people can be like the mythical Jesus and completely altruistic. It's not human nature. It's the same reason that sane people can believe in the "Prosperity" sect of Christianity, vote straight red, and completely ignore 90% of Jesus' teachings. It's called cognitive dissonance.
I think an important religious figure once said it is harder for a camel to walk through the eye of a needle than it is for a rich man to get into the kingdom of heaven. Yet the Prosperity Churches are overflowing with wealthy members, thinking their membership is a golden ticket to heaven.
Funny how whoever's selling what benefits you is the "one" true religion or sect. People are funny like that.
