Honestly, I wouldn't get too up in arms about it. Catholics have historically been blamed for everything from laziness and moral degeneration to child molestation. All part of living in America while not being a white Protestant (or atheist, nowadays) male.
So many great Cardinals for the Catholic better:

I have nothing but the utmost admiration for a lot of nuns who serve their communities in ways that most of us can't imagine. If more people like them were in power, I'm sure Moose and I would feel better about the hierarchy. My anger and resentment is toward those that covered up crimes against vulnerable children and did so to protect the institution. To talk about Benedict's legacy and ignore that stain continues to perpetuate the issue.
I know, right? You rape a few thousand kids and everybody freaks out.
Calmer than you are
Seriously, why is it always ok on this board to just rip on Catholics?
I'm not really religious at all, but it gets pretty ridiculous here sometimes. I'd be banned in a second if I started making Jew jokes.
What's offensive to you? Surely there can't be a single molestation joke that you haven't heard already.
Mocking the Pope is like mocking the president. It doesn't mean you hate the religion or the USA.
Sparty is our mascot, we are Spartans.
Really? No one has mentioned Urban Meyer's family yet? Really?
But if you demonize an entire religion that does more good than any other organization in the world based on the sins of a tiny minority its perfectly ok?
Remind yourself. Nobody built like you, you design yourself.
But you're not allowed to offend people, because you know what can happen when someone gets offended, oh that's right, nothing happens.
Indeed. I actually love Catholicism. It's my favourite form of clandestine global evil.
Define "more good" please.
Yes there are plenty of people in the Church that have been totally selfless and dedicated to their faith. That's more than I am capable of doing. There are also many in power in the Catholic Church who have abused their power and as men of the cloth have desecrated their vow and their religion yet fight to clear their names and refuse to take responsibility for their actions. And for decades the Catholic Church shamefully hid all of this dirt and fought against the charges rather than renouncing this disaster until public pressure forced them to do so.
Kudos to the great majority who live up to their vows but it's unfortunate that the bureaucracy they work for does not have the same altruistic standards.
As an Englishman you may be one of the few who could be legitimately accused of hating Catholicism.
Yes, please quantify that. Also, please quantify the good done by major universities, like, I don't know, Penn State. Think of everything its contributed to academics and athletics and then just let the Sandusky business slide. No big deal. Less lives ruined than millionaires made so its ok.
Plot twist: he works for ESPN for a year before taking the OSU job.
Let me respond by first saying that YES - there are many, many priests as well as laity who do great things.
But unfortunately for the rest of the modern world - the council of Bishops and their leaders and the Vatican are hell bent on keeping the world in the stone age.
Opposition to contraceptives in Africa and throughout the world has lead to untold human suffering. They have harbored from the law known rapists on huge and international scale. What can one say of a church that finds so much latitude for a crime so ghastly that no morally normal person can even think of it without shuddering? Uganda? Kosovo? Look close and you will see Catholicism not doing charity but creating conflict in the name of God.
They condemn gays. They use laws to hide pedophilia and then refuse to abide by laws that seek to provide equal access to health care under a so-called "conscience"? All religions are all equally rotten, false, dishonest, corrupt, humorless and dangerous.
Sure there are Catholics throughout this world that spread peace, love and charity. But there are also many, many more unaffiliated people who do the exact same thing without carrying the baggage ofSatan (although I do not believe in that either), like Ratzo and male dominated clique. Good riddance - death is too good for him.
In the end all there is to the Pope, the Bishops, and the other so-called leaders is a quest for power. Spending billions to hide crimes against humanity while slowly eroding the only good things they do - hospitals and schools.

It's not the tiny minority, it's the cover up and refusal to accept responsibility by those in charge that's shameful. Abuse by those who are in charge of leading their flock is beyond the pale and should have been dealt with severely and instantaneously.

The RCMB...is one of the most awful, alarming, inappropriate, disgusting, and offensive msg boards in the history of the internet.
Maybe this time they can find one of the 6 Billion or so people who haven't been in the Hitler Youth to be Pope.
