I've never understood this.
I'm not Jewish, so I don't celebrate Hanukkah.
If you're not Christian or are vehemently opposed to the word Christmas, then why celebrate it?
No gifts or Christmas lights or Christmas cookies or Christmas trees for you. Just shut the hell up and read a book or something.
Oh, and Merry Christmas!
Dominating Press Conferences Since 2007
I bought some batteries, but they weren't included... so I had to buy them again. What do batteries run on?
Unsurprisingly, you have a pretty poor (read: nonexistent) understanding of the etymology of "Xmas."
X : Christ. Xpny : Christianity. Not sure how or why exactly but that's why it is shortened to Xmas.
You really didn't think this one through OP.
I get Xmas presents. Not Jesus presents. That's why
I have a friend who doesn't believe in God, and that's great. I don't care what people think. He refuses to say Christmas, and says Xmas instead.
Yet, he celebrates the holiday, and gets presents and has a tree and lights.
Doesn't make sense to me.
I completely agree. The term "x-mas" is a derogatory term and should be, at least, recognized as such.
Why do Christians erect a pagan symbol in their living room to celebrate their most sacred of days. Doesn't make any sense to me
I can't find Rudolph and Frosty in the bible. What chapter do they star in? Do they hate homosexuals too
Because christmas to me is about family and friends. I'll continue my tradition of gathering with them, laughing, eating, drinking and sharing gifts. Don't ask me to stop my tradition and i won't ask you to stop yours. Merry Christmas.
So your friend invented his own holiday that happens to be on December 25 that has identical traditions to an invented holiday that happens to be on December 25. And this confuses you?
Hold on... I think that sound I heard was my irony meter exploding.
Why so angry, brah? It's Christmas!
Why not celebrate Hannukah, too? Obviously, religion has nothing to do with it. Seriously.
Because they only use two colors of lights. How lame is that! I can't properly celebrate Christ without 20 inflatables in my front yard.
And there ain't no Grinch stealin Hannukah. Or a Hannukah Story. Or Merry Hannukah, Charlie Brown.
I'm not Irish, but I still like Corned Beef and Cabbage on St. Patrick's Day. Is that not allowed? Are Octoberfests off limits if you aren't German. Hell we celebrate Benito Juarez Day at work (because we saw it on someones table calendar) with a huge mexican pot luck, we better stop doing that as well...
Lol. You obviously don't understand where Xmas originiated.
Jebus I use it because I don't want to type out the whole word. Never thought I was being politically correct.
Truth be told I haven't been to "Christ's Mass" on Christmas day in years. I do some Christmas Eve stuff.
YOUR have been banned from reading and posting on the Michigan Wolverine board.
People used Xmas because they would be punished for saying Christmas
Lol I'm the same as you, I have used it as a shortened version of Christmas. Never once did it strike me as possibly being derragatory. I never would have thought someone would get offended by it.
Just like how the words butter, coconut, Democrats, and a lot of the words in the derragatory database are considered derogatory.
What this world needs is bipartisan ships...because right now, we don't have them! And that, my friends, is a trajesty!

Can you give an example of someone who is vehemently opposed to the word Christmas and is also being celebrating it?
Christmas isn't about Jesus, it's about getting drunk and stoned with your friends and family.

A society grows great when old men plant trees whose shade they know they shall never sit in.
I'm an atheist but I celebrate with my extended family....parents, brothers, sisters their families
- they are not atheists
- I like giving gifts
- I like getting gifts
- I have young kids who are not atheists
- I have a wife who is not an atheist
- Christmas in the US has a lot of ancillary traditions that are not Christ centric (frosty, trees, lights, etc, etc)
- I draw no distinction between "Christmas" and "Xmas"....to me X is the symbol for Christ so it's just shorthand
In short I celebrate because it gives me and my family pleasure to do so.
