Even Worse Than It Looks / Politics of Extremism

  • Mann and Ornstein have written a new book about our dysfunctional Congress. They even point the finger at the GOP.

    From the link:
"One of the two major parties, the Republican Party, has become an insurgent outlier – ideologically extreme; contemptuous of the inherited social and economic policy regime; scornful of compromise; unpersuaded by conventional understanding of facts, evidence, and science; and dismissive of the legitimacy of its political opposition," they write."

"We didn't come to this conclusion lightly," he says. He points out that he and Mann have been highly critical of both parties in previous works. For example, they called the Democrats "arrogant, condescending, [and] complacent" after Democrats had been in the majority for 40 consecutive years up to 1994.

"But for Republicans currently inside Congress, you have a new set of litmus tests and a new outlook that leads them in directions where you can't say that there is such a thing as climate change, you take positions on things like immigration that are simply off the rails, and if you compromise, you are basically defiling what the party stands for," Ornstein says."

These two guys think today's GOP does want to roll back the clock to the Gilden Age. I concur.

'Even Worse Than It Looks': Extremism In Congress? : NPR

Two Washington political veterans have a new book out that claims Congress today is probably the most dysfunctional it has been since the Civil War — and they aren't afraid to point fingers at those they believe are to blame.

So liberal extremists are writing a book bashing republicans for their role in Congress.

Yeah, that sounds un-biased and not agenda driven. hammer

Walter the Sctick didn't read the link and shows how some of think he's a cute little troll who did just fall off the turnip truck.

Walter the Schtick obviously doesn't know what the American Enterprise Institute is (A conservative think tank) or who Norman Ornstein is. He is an AEO scholar as are John Bolton, Michael Barone, Lynne Cheney, Jonah Goldberg, Charles Murray and Paul Woflowitz

I've provided you and the other "conservatives" some links to the list of other AEI scholars and their Board which isn't full of "liberal extremists.

You really need to be smarter if you don't want to be continually exposed as a poster with zero facts on your side.

  • Dude, the point is for every book out there telling one side of the story, there is another. If you want, I can find 20 books that point to the liberals in Congress as extremist whackos out of touch with reality.

It's doesn't matter. If you are a liberal, you believe their propaganda. If you are a conservative, you believe theirs.

Politics has become about "sticking it" to the other side, while both sides try to convince themselves how evil the other party is.

    Its a self fulfilling prophecy.

GRR's lame attempt to claim Mann and Ornstein as conservatives ratting out the GOP is dishonest (assuming GRR knows anything about Mann, Ornstein and the Brookings Intstitute) or ignorant (if he doesn't know)

Mann and Ornstein are LIBERALS. They have nothing to do with the conservatives GRR mentions.

Did GRR even read his own link or did he just drool over it?

This is why he doesnt get serious responses.

Look, I can claim to be a liberal, then write a hit piece on OBama saying how out of touch Democrats are. No one believes it. Saying you are a liberal or conservative then bashing your own beliefs or parties proves you aren't one.

Like callers on sports talk who call up saying they are a fan of team X, and then go on to say how much team X blows and stuff. Obvious troll is obvious.

  • You dopes want to tell me that Ornstein and the American Enterprise Institute are liberal leaning.

You have got to be among the dumbest, most uninformed "conservatives" who attempt to be intelligent here.

RQA is proving he's a dumb as you all are. RQA is too busy congradulating himself on being well informed but he's another who didn't have a clue about the American Enterprise Institute. Like Lynne Cheney is a resident scholar in a Liberal think tank? You folks are as stupid as the new GOP Congress.

The whole book is about how government doesn't work because the GOP in this case just obstructionist. They want to roll back the clock to the Gilded Age. Just ignore the last 100 years

But then it shows the "conservatives" here are much like the fools we have in Congress who refuse to compromise and apparently would rather see government shut down than see our republic form of government work the way it has since after the Civil War.

    AEI liberal leaning? No.

Ornstein liberal leaning? Yes! In fact delete the "leaning".

Your insistence that this opinion piece represents the view of the AEI is pure nonsense.

  • Congress is far from extreme. I'd love to see your reaction if they did what I want them to do.

  • Again Walter the Schtick get his ass hansed to him with facts and his only response is an emoticon.
Must be taking lessons from other conservatives who post here.

Imagine that. A guy who calls himself a conservative and didn't know the American Enterprise Institute was a CONSERVATIVE THINK TANK.

Now wonder Walter the Schtick is so clueless. He doesn't know much about what he is so quick to protect.

"So liberal extremists are writing a book bashing republicans for their role in Congress."

Never one to let the facts get in the way of your angry schickt, are you GRR?

Fact 1. The linked article is a conjoined effort of the LEFT-leaning Brookings Institute and AEI.

Fact 2. The authors are LIBERALS.

The clueless party here is GRR. He got caught drooling over a liberal hit piece and figured because one of the authors works for the AEI, that he found conservatives basing the GOP. This would be no different than claiming Fox is liberal because Juan Williams sometimes works there.

Are you really as stupid as your post makes you appear?

You had better email Mr. Ornstein and let him know he has incorrectly identified himself as a conservative for several decades and the people who pay him at the American Enterprise Institute also recognize him as a conservative.

Hss it gotten to the point where you want to argue facts when they slap you in the backside.

Extra Extra RQA proclaims Norman J Ornstein to be a liberal.

Is the following editorial the opinion of a liberal or conservative?

Old GRR got caught drooling over a liberal NPR piece and now to deflect has taken to calling me stupid. Very mature. lol
