And she didnt whine, and "occupy" begging for life to be fair. Instead, when faced with horrible life circumstances and terrible parents, worked as a school janitor and studied with the determination to succeed. This is one amazing young woman.

meanwhile you are just a regular idiot?
As long as you get killer test scores, have a stellar GPA and write a good essay Harvard will give you a look. Its not as heartwarming as msux2 wants us to believe it is Harvard accepts an incoming freshman class based on test scores, academic achievement, extracurricular activities, nationality, income demographics and even region and state.
I know a kid who was told by Harvard thanks but no room for you. They had filled their spots for middle income white males from the South East who weren't athletes or legacies.. (He's from Alabama) 35 ACT / 2350-2375 area for SAT. He went to another school on a full ride and the only 2 schools to reject him were Harvard and Stanford.

Nope. As GRR said, having put children into elite schools I'm well aware that with the schools no longer able to use direct quotas for minorities they target poor people hoping that most of them are monirities which is a pretty good bet...if they didn't have a policy like that she wouldn't get the finanical support she will need to attend...and Harvard would be full of Mittens types only...

Harvard told him they had already reached their quota of South Eastern middle class non athlete/legacy white kids? Wow...at least they were honest. I wonder if anyone at Harvard got fired for that letter? Did he go to the papers with it? It seems like that would have been national news, but then again it is Alabama...
Why didn't Stanford take him?
Also, I didn't realize gave a "range" score. When did that start?

you just keep being more and more incorrect... "they target poor people HOPING that most of them are monirities [sic]"
Luckily, I have two siblings who applied to Harvard (one got in and one didn't) and know what the Common Application looks like.
On page 1, they specifically ask you your race/ethnicity. They knew this chick is white. Oh, and they don't know very much about your financial status until AFTER they've accepted you (although I guess they could make some assumptions based on school district, but that's really too much work when over 30,000 people apply every year). All they ask in the application is whether you'll apply for need-based financial aid or not... but the vast majority of people (even upper middle class people) need some sort of financial aid, so the admissions committee doesn't know if you'll need a couple grand per year or if you need all of your tuition covered.
Harvard and a few other schools (UPenn, Yale, and MIT come to mind) make a commitment to cover 100% of your need IF you get accepted. So once you're accepted, they review your financial documents and make the decision on how much you need and how much they'll give you. It would be a pain in the ass (and trust me, Harvard doesn't do this) to review 34,000 financial aid forms just to find poor people that they "hope will be minorities"
.
Please stop making things up if you have no idea what you're talking about.

Oh boy. You know the process because you know people who have applied...Harvard cannot take race into account since the UofM case...so they use other means...that you don't see them on the application is because they don't want you to see them.
Howere as a big hint to you...lots of orginizations us Zip codes to classify the population.

Good morning asshole.
I know the SATscore was above 2350 and below perfect. He was a National Merit Scholar.
He didn't get a letter saying that. I never said that in the post. Break a leg jumping to conclusions? He got on the phone and talked to the admissions offices at both schools. Harvard told him how they put their classes together based on percentages taking a lot of things into consideration including family income, state, legacey, athletics.
PS The same guy is now at MIT in a PhD program. His father works for the Federal Government in Huntsville. He's a rocket scientist. A real rocket scientist. So what PhD program are you in since you obviously are smarter than any of us.
