How many assault weapons do you need before you feel safe?

  • So apparently this shooter obtained all four assault weapons used last night legally. My question: How many assault weapons do you need before you feel that you've protected yourself and your family from the dangers you're likely to face??

Newt was just on with Wolfe Blitzer, and his solution is "Let's deal with this individual in a swift and harsh way, so that others don't do what he did. Let's work with the laws we have now....George Washington passed a law requiring every man to own a gun...." (paraphrasing)

Oh really Newt?!?! A few problems with Newt's position:

    1. To deal with this shooter in an individual way is fine, BUT IT'S AFTER THE FACT. AFTER HE HAS ALREADY KILLED 12+ and wounded 75+. Don't we have an obligation to be more pro-active about this issue?? Newt's solution would be to deal with drunk drivers AFTER they've already killed someone?
    2. Exactly how do you go about this "swift and harsh" thing?? Would Newt like to bypass due process?? Should we violate his constitutional rights to bring him to a harsh form of justice?? Take away his right to appeal? Change the laws on the book just to make an example out of him??
    3. George Washington never saw an assault weapon in his life! Maybe Repubs need to get with the times.

  • Safe from what? Zombie apocalypse after the cyber breakdown for power, water supplies and so on - if I was retired and on a 160 acre farm in S Dakota I would want several and lots of ammo.

Otherwise, a tactical shotgun and a few decent nines and/or .45acp semi autos like HKs are enough for me. I don't have "assault weps" but I don't have a problem if someone else has one.

While it's true that many people with guns are embarrassingly fearful of the possibility that a black man is going to crawl through their window and have his way with their pooper, the other half of the people with assault weapons in this country are arming themselves for the coming war with the United Nations. Please get with the program. There's freedom takers abroad!

  • I don't own a gun, and I don't feel the need to at any point. I don't hunt, and I don't live in a bad neighborhood, so it just seems like more of a liability than anything. It also seems like a really unnecessary expense. I guess I just don't live my life in fear of being attacked.

Assault weapon means that it has full auto capability. Is this what the shooter had or did he have a semi auto copy of an assault weapon? The only thing that makes the "copy" weapon different from some hunting guns is a high round count magazine. I highly doubt he had a true assault weapon, as they are class III firearms and are very hard and expensive to obtain.

Edit: I didn't mean to quote you fishrose.

How does one deal with this fictional version and how different from reality.

The report I read stated the shooter had an AR15, two Glock .40s and a Remington 870 shotgun. Not one of those is an "assault weapon". This is a Aurora shooting thread right?

But Obama believes a couple cops are just collateral damage. Hundreds of Mexicans were killed or wounded. That was Obama's real prize. Remember, he is doing more than any other President to keep the border closed. I bet Obama has killed more Mexicans than during the Mexican war (and the killing is still ongoing).

Dude you know that that whole scheme was designed by the previous Bush Administration right? Just wanted to point out that retired Republican presidents are also to blame.

No they didn't.... The larger problem was actually that anyone in AZ (provided you can pass a background check) can purchase as many guns (any type) as they want. There is no law saying that you can't purchase 100 AR 15s at once. I actually own one myself. My brother (who lives with me) also has one and I got mine purely out of envy and the desire to shoot it with him recreationally. However a few kids in town were recruited by the cartels to buy mass quantities of them LEGALLY at local gun stores. The ATF was monitoring a few of these kids, but had no grounds to arrest them simply for buying the guns because they weren't breaking the law here... Ah screw it...this is going to Wells anyway
