Latest on the Zimmerman case

  • Its going to be a very sticky case for both sides. Since the shooter's father is a retired judge there is a good chance he will be very familiar with FL law.

    Liberals are an amazingly tolerant bunch. A couple of Hispanic witnesses come to his defense and they're automatically dismissed as liars. But yet when black people due the same to one of their own it's the truth. I'm finally starting to figure this whole thing out....some people have strange definitions of the word progressive

    Hispanic and white are not mutually exclusive.

    Apparently in their little world, you can't be Hispanic and white at the same time.

    They don't understand that Hispanic is just a catch all term used in the US for anyone coming from Mexico, Central America, and South America.

    All too true. The mother is Peruvian. The question is, is she Pervian Indian, or Peruvian of Spanish descent? Makes a big difference to ethnicity.

    Nice call. You would have thought after the revelation of NBC's manipulation one would be skeptical of all media, especially one that hung their banner, normally at the bottom of the screen, over the middle of the screen covering most of Zimmerman's head. But hey, if insulting others for your own ignorance gets you through life then good for you!

    If you don't think this case gets tossed at the preliminary hearing then you just don't understand the way rule of law operates in this country

    If you're going off of Dershowitz's analysis-he basically is of the same opinion-I think you're fooling yourself. Any county level judge is not going to dump this case at the preliminary hearing level, they will let it go to trial, and if they got it wrong they'll let the court of appeals work it out. No way they'll end this at the prelim stage. Not with what happened leading up to the arrest.

    It doesn't go before a county level judge, it's the same state judge appointed for the case. And it has nothing to do with Dershowitz. My opinion is entirely due to the provision of the Stand Your Ground Law that gives the judge more leeway in tossing the case out that isn't allowed for any other defense. Since you made no mention of that in your post I'm gonna assume you aren't aware of it

    I understand the possibilities given the rule of law. But there is more than enough evidence to cast reasonable doubt on "self defense", IMHO.

    So no, I don't think it gets tossed.

    More than enough evidence? Such as? I'll take it you didn't hear the state investigators testimony today. They could not verify that Zimmerman was NOT walking back to his car after he hung up with the dispatcher, and it was acknowledged that wording in the affidavit of "confronted" could have been replaced with about 30 other words and does not mean that Zimmerman initiated it. Combine this with the photograph released today and it's game, set and match for Zimmerman. Sorry if it disappoints you that he acted in self-defense to preserve his own life within accordance of Florida law, but the facts don't lie

    The way this pathetic law was written in this state it would really shock me if this case doesn't get tossed. Doesn't mean it's right, it's just the likely and sad outcome.
