He received approx. $26,000 in federal grants that he used to buy his instruments of death on Barry's watch. Too bad liberal policies allow for this type of tragedy to occur. If we cut these grants, then crazies like this guy wouldn't be able to buy expensive guns to kill the innocent.

I guess paying taxes for things that you don't want to isn't always fun, huh?

This is just plain ignorance. He did not directly receive a grant for $26,000. The university received a grant to support PhD students. It is called a training grant. It pays the salary of a certain number of students to work in research labs. In other words, $26,000 is his annual salary. Training grants typically also cover some additional expenses such as books, travel to conferences, etc. but those funds are only released for those specific items.

don't inject facts into MSUxFishHead's pathetic arguments to destroy them. Besides, he's too busy lying on a beach buying a house, founding a business, buying a sports team or whatever fantasy he's having this week.

Also, the grants go to the university for positions and with those positions they select the individuals to fill them as those positions are funded for the university.

Sorry. Silly me. I don't know why I'm always surprised how little the general public understands about how federal grants work but you would expect the media to know better ... errrr, OK, nevermind.

Did I say it didn't? I am just clarifying that he was paid a salary similar to any other job. The source of his salary is irrelevant to the discussion. What he chose to do with that salary is the tragedy.

Right, the whole reason I posted that is because people were wondering how he got the money to buy the guns. Some conspiracy theories are popping up and those theorists keep asking where he got the money. They are trying to imply that this was a staged event. Basically they are fucking crazy.

Yes. The implication of the OP is that our beloved tax dollars are being misused because a lunatic happened to be paid from a training grant. Since he bought his arsenal online he most likely used a credit card. Do we blame Visa?

Obviously the problem is the government did not dictate to him what he can and can not spend money on. We simply need Obama to tell us what we can buy.

He's being facetious to make a point regarding liability resting on the shooter alone.

Or he's being very asinine. Take your pick

I blame the roads the government built to allow people access to the place where the guns were built.

I'm glad to hear that you aren't interested in politicizing the tragedy.. you're one of the more reasonable dudes here, for sure..

however, I am not at all surprised that suddenly republicans attempt to shift blame from the shooter to the evil government (headed by the black man with a suspicious-sounding name)... it's what they do.

yep - the of personal responsibility and "the government does nothing" is now trying to claim this guy had no responsibility and it was the government who made him do it.

I wonder if they're setting Holmes up for a speaking slot at the GOP Convention next month as much as they're going out of their way to shift blame from him. Maybe he'll come on right after George Zimmerman?

This is where I have problems with the premise of the OP's argument. He didn't "acquire" the money any more than other employees "acquire" their paycheck. He didn't get a grant and use the grant to buy his arsenal. He had a job.

Some easily say "If there were no guns, no one gets hurt."

Why won't anyone say "If there was no grant, no purchase of guns and death devices could be made."?

I was not making any point whatsoever other than that. There are no other points to be made here. No matter how much spin you want to put on this tragedy, it could not have been prevented due to gun laws or government spending.

That is all. Hug someone you love or someone you hate today and stay frosty.
