Mitt Romney/ Jeb Bush? Jeb says he'd consider it.

  • If not Ohio's Portman why not Bush. Popular former FL governor with a lot of family political chits to call in compared to Rubio who has already seen his family narrative examined and found to be historically incorrect. Jeb even has a Mexican born wife, Columbia.

A lot will have to do with what the polls say. Not the overall but the underlying ones like "who do you trust", "who will treat people more fairly" type polling where Obama is often 20% ahead. But then maybe Bush does this to get ready for a 1016 run and not be considered the loser in 2012. At 64 this is proabably it for Romney, Jeb Bush is 59.

Jeb Bush: “I’d consider” the vice presidential job - Florida - MiamiHerald.com

Jeb Bush said he would consider being Mitt Romneys running mate, but doubts the presumed Republican presidential nominee would even ask him to join the ticket.

  • Whatever the reality of Jeb Bush, and in that sense he has the resume for a good VP choice, the Obama campaign would welcome having the name "Bush" as a central theme in this campaign. That truly has nothing to do with Jeb, but the Democratic side would pounce on the opportunity to connect Romney to an era that even the GOP wants to forget. Someone like Portman may not bring the gravitas that Jeb has, but he doesn't have much baggage. My honest guess would be Paul Ryan as I think Romney's first priority is to convince his base that he'll govern as a conservative........

  • Paul Ryan.

  • Dems would love Jeb Bush as Romney's pick for VP. Paul Ryan would be great for Dems too. Rubio is someone Dems fear because of what he brings to the table.

Not really going to matter, Obama is a huge favorite for victory in November.

Not saying that Paul Ryan wouldn't make a great VP...but I'm guessing Romney understands the value of keeping Ryan at his current position should the GOP ticket win in November. On the other hand, the Ryan plan is going to be front and central during the campaign. Who better to be out there advocating and defending it than the man behind the plan himself. It will be interesting to see who Romney eventually picks. Arguments can be made for Rubio, Portman, Daniels, Christie and the NM governor. But there's likely a dark horse out there that nobody is considering right now.

Sounds like the libs are starting to get worried.

Like the GOP would nominate anyone for VP with the name "Bush" this time around. Obama is doing a good enough job sabotaging his own incumbency, and the GOP just needs to play it safe at this point.

Polls consistently show Romney is the one people trust more to run the economy. That is the #1 issue.

    A few thoughts....

    - As mentioned, I think Romney's #1 priority in chosing a VP in convincing Republicans that he's a Republican. Moderates need not apply.

    - The "dark horse" is always enticing, but the lesson of 2008 for the GOP is that there is a real danger in having the nominee overshadowed by the fresh face.

    - Politicians with their eye on 2016 and beyond will be cautious in attaching themselves to a campaign where that attachment may not be an advantage down the line.

Rubio would be ideal, but I think he's be cautious for reason #3. Portman fits the bill and helps in Ohio. Bush certainly fits the bill, helps with Florida, but has that pesky last name. Daniels and Ryan.....sure. But I really don't think we'll see another "game changer" after the debacle Palin made of the McCain campaign......

  • This was posted only because I find it very interesting that after staying at arm's length Jeb Bush first endorses Romney when he doesn't need the endorsement (He needed it the week before the Floridal primary when Romney was burning through campaign cash) and why would Jeb Bush then come out and say he'd consider the VP role?

This isn't Jeb sucks or the Democrats are worried. This is why if not for one loss to Lawton Chiles would probably have been nominated in 2000 instead of his brother and we probably would have had 47 year old President Jeb Bush.

  • Jeb has a good base in the south. It might really help the romney campaign get some southern right voters (who shyed away during the primaries) to really start backing him and open their pockets.
