Newt opens up 8 point lead over Mitt in Florida

  • Newt Surges to Lead in Fla., Romney Trails by 8 Points

Newt Gingrich has now surged to a significant lead over Mitt Romney in Florida, leading the former front-runner now by 8 points, according to a new poll by InsiderAdvantage completed Sunday night of likely Republican primary voters.

  • If Romney shows up in the debate this week, I see a Mitt victory.

  • Romney's a terrible debater and easily agitated. Agitation can play well with Republicans, particularly when it's focused towards President Obama, but Romney has yet to show he can pull it off well.

Newt is extremely aggressive, and doesn't give a damn about facts. Fortunately, facts really do not matter much to Republican primary voters.

I can't believe i'm saying this, but I think Newt's momentum might just carry him to a win in Florida.

    Pressure is definitely on Romney.

You might be seeing dead people too.

Mitt is starting to show that Romney trait of saying the wrong thing again.

His father said he was brainwashed about Viet Nam. Had he said he was lied to, given bad information or any other phrase he would have hunfg in the race longer but that remark left Nixon an opening and we know the rest.

In 2008 when asked why none of his 5 sons had served in the military Mitt replied they were serving their country by helping him be elected President. Dumb remark when you are running in a Midwest state that has a very high enlistment and your opponent is a former POW.

Now he's made that $10,000 bet, said corporations are people, hedged on revealing his taxesand Gingrich has jumped on every one of his miscues.

Whatever is in the Bush family DNA is missing with the Romneys

    No
I have loved the game of politics since I was in junior high and since George Romney was the former MI governor who actually showed up at a company picnic (when AMC owned Kelvinator which had a plant in GR )where I saw him in person. For a few months it appeared as if Romney would win the GOP nomination in 1968.

I remember a lot of stuff. (Like you being a builder of custom homes)

Politics is a a great game. Right now in Florida, the Romney people are scrambling to shore up their base and encouraging everyone they can to vote early and vote for Romney before both "debates" because they are seeing what happened in SC even with the SC gov endorsement and don't want people to vote after the debates because it could cost them votes to Gingrich.

if you are in Romney's camp you are fearful of anymore joint appearances with Gingrich on the same stage. Even with money and a proven organization Romney can fall short. This would be more dramatic than Obama beating the well oiled Hillary Clinton organization in 2008.

You must believe in the power of prayer since you are talking about the same Mitt Flipwho wasn't going to be doing any debates in FL prior to the SC results.

Gingrich is going to get every redneck in the interior and the Panhandle voting for him.

I guess the real question is can either of them tap into any "anti-Barry" sentiment? If any exists of course...

  • Latest polls Romney back up by 1.5% ..essentially a dead heat. Newt is losing a little steam.

In a general election Mitt is a tougher candidate for Obama to run against.
Best thing for Mitt is to pull this winner take all primary out even if its by less than 1% and start aiming for Super Tuesday where Gingrich didn't get on the VA ballot.

No bubbly until the day after.

Way too many things can happen. Mitt was looking like a slam dunk despite only being popular with less than 50% of the party because of his bankroll and organization that's been running for nearly 5 years. How many including me were chuckling as Gingrich staff started bailing on him months ago and now he is one of the last 3 standing?

Mitt needs to squeak out a win in FL and make hay on Super Tuesday.

  • Bump.
Romney now up by 7-9%. Looks like Newt's time in the sun is fading fast.

Any momentum Gingrich had built is gone after the Thursday appearance/debate. Romney went on the attack, went straight to Gingrich's investments and it was over.

Gingrich had no idea that Romney would be that aggressive and looked like a boxer who never faced a counterpuncher or a lefty before. It was a sorry showing after hearing all the build up of how well Gingrich was supposed to be able to think on his feet.

  • No matter what happens, it's an exciting time to be following politics. If Ron Paul gets the nomination, he'll fairly easily beat Obama, and we can finally see what a President that will actually follow through on promises of change looks like.

Conversely, if Ron Paul loses, it's going to be the end of the Republican party as we know it...and probably the two-party system in general. Either way, should be fun to watch.

Haven't the Ron Paul fans accepted that he is not getting the nomination yet? Paul is no longer focused on winning the nomination. He is just in it to get a seat at the table when crafting the Republican agenda for after the election. You fan boys need to realize this.
