Rush Limbaugh honored by the state of Missouri

  • Cue the outrage upset lol

'JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) — Conservative commentator Rush Limbaugh was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians on Monday during a secretive ceremony in the state Capitol as police stood guard to keep out any uninvited political opponents of the sometimes divisive radio show host.
Limbaugh, a native of Cape Girardeau in southeast Missouri, addressed a crowd of more than 100 Republicans during a closed-door event in the Missouri House chamber. Speaking from the chamber's dais, he thanked his family for their support throughout his career, denounced liberals and Democrats as "deranged," then helped lift a black curtain off a bronze bust of himself, which he hugged — head to head — for photographs.
The timing of the ceremony was kept secret until shortly before it occurred, and then only Republican lawmakers, other invited guests and the media were allowed into the chamber to watch — an attempt to avoid any public disruption after Limbaugh's selection was criticized by Democrats, some women's groups and other political foes.
The talk show host was selected for the Hall of Famous Missourians by term-limited House Speaker Steven Tilley, a Republican who like Limbaugh is from southeast Missouri. Tilley wants to display Limbaugh's bust in the Capitol alongside other members of the Hall of Famous Missourians, including President Harry Truman, Mark Twain and Walt Disney.'

  • Not much more ironic than the small government, son of a lawyer, nephew of a US Federal judge, cousin of another Federal judge and grandson of a former Missouri prosecutor, judge and legislator being honored by government.

  • well, there are many in Missouri who are proud of their past as a slave state and what better way to show that than honor Rush.

Plus, with Missouri being the meth capital of the US Rush is a perfect representative of the state.

good for Rush, though - seems like the kind of thing he enjoys..

You got that right. I sometimes think he feels he is above god. no

I agree... pretty sad guy, but if it makes him happy, I'm glad for him..

Well Bob, I'm sure it does. I have a lot respect for him from the standpoint he worked very hard to get where he is today. Other than that, his head may explode one of these days. lol

Harry Truman refused to let his poor eyesight (which should have disqualified him) prevent him from serving in WWI, desegregated the military, and pushed for the formation of the UN. I'm not sure if you were joking or not, but Harry Truman, despite his faults, is somebody that Missourians can take pride in. I'm not really sure why they would take pride in Rush Limbaugh. If making a lot of money and being a popular radio host are enough to earn you a bust, then I guess that he's definitely done that.

    1. He was absolutely joking.
    2. If you read the OP, then you will notice he was inducted into the Hall of Famous Missourians. So yes, making a lot of money by being a popular radio host fits the criteria for being famous.

Meh. As an adopted Missourian I can think of a lot more embarrassing things about my adopted state but it still causes one to take shake their head. I love that they they are so proud of they guy that they kept it a secret and only allowed invited guests to the ceremony. Of course, I can't even recall an announcement about any of the previous inductees. They have a map of where the busts are located. I wonder if they are going to put Rush next to Emmet Kelly?

  • I wonder if he told the assembled Dittoheads in the chamber that he owes his career to a government agency. Just kidding. I know he'll never admit that.

My remark was meant that tongue in cheek. I just think it's hilariously ironic that one of the most famous and accomplished Democrats in modern history now 'stands' shoulder to shoulder with one of our nation's most fervent Dem-haters...lol
