Santorum wants to ban Porn

  • he says the Government shouldn't interfere with our lives, yet here he is wanting to ban something based not off of the constitution, but off of his moral beliefs.

""America is suffering a pandemic of harm from pornography, Pornography is toxic to marriages and relationships. It contributes to misogyny and violence against women. It is a contributing factor to prostitution and sex trafficking."

  • A Santorum presidency would be a disaster. The guy claims to be for small government, yet basically wants cameras monitoring the private lives of anyone in this country due to his version of morality. He's the ultimate theocrat.

Sadly it appears that Santorum knows he is leading a lost cause because he can't overcome the mountains of money that paid for advance staff to get Romney all every ballot, were well placed to have rules made that favored Romney and paid for hours of negative ads.

So his next move is to soldify himself as the angry moral voice of the conservative underclasses. That will set himself up for speaking engagements and a book deal or 2. When you have a large family you need a larger income.

  • Iv always wondered why porn can be legal while prostitution is not.

Its a crime for josh to pay jenna to have sex with him, but if jim were to come along and pay them to have sex with one another so he can tape it and sell it that's not a crime.

Jenna and josh were paid for sex dosent that make them prostitutes?

  • Jurisdictions have varying interpretations of what is "acting" and what constitutes prostitution.

Probably why SoCal's San Fernando Valley is called the Porn Valley and I can't ever recall anyone ever arrested in Holland MI for filming/producing pornography.

I think it has more to do with the ugly underbelly of prostitution.

Most women could easily say no to creating a sex tape to be sold on the market, for obvious reasons. Many women in prostitution have no choice.

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

so what your saying is that woman can be forced into having sex for money really easy as long as its not gonna be videotaped and then sold for profit?

Not exactly. Porn really is big business. A producer isn't going to making many vids in jail, right?

And again, it seems you are looking at prostitution through rosy colored glasses. Many, many women are being paid very little but forced to perform under threat of violence or worse. High class hookers make up a very small minority of prositition worldwide.

do a little research on human trafficking.

  • Call me crazy, but I generally agree with Santorum on this point. I would support banning porn if there was any practical way to do it. There is a lot of research linking porn to abuse of women, more angry/objectified/condescending attitudes toward women, sexual abuse of children, divorce, eating disorders, and so on. It's terrible destructive to society.

If prostitution were legal then most of those problems would be eliminated. If porn were illegal we could say all the same things about it as you just did about prostitution.

Perhaps, but you could say the same thing about alcohol...

Prostitution is legal in many countries and human trafficking is a huge proglem in those countries, so you are wrong on that point.

I guess, in a way you have a point about porn, but it would basically consist of underground rape porn. There would be nothing mainstream as exists today.
