  • Excuse me. Mentally challenged

    Compound 2

  • Why you have you use the "R" word Mr. Jim? Can't you use mentally challenged? That's not the liberal way. nerd

It's a legal term, not an insult.

Then the mods should have no problem if we start calling you a libtard. Or is that term only offensive if a conservative says it?

The issue I’m addressing is in answer to the “nuance” above that it was “okay” for Clinton to put to death Ricky Ray because he knew what he was doing when he committed the crime – that it wasn’t until after the crime that he became a vegetable.

    Everyone with me so far?

Perhaps if you learned how the quote button worked people would have realized you were responding to a specific post.

No one has said that Clinton's execution of Ray was okay. In fact I said just the opposite. I simply pointed out that Mr. Ray's diminished mental capacity was self induced, which it was, and that he wasn't mentally diminished when he committed his crime. Therein lies the difference between the two cases. That you cannot grasp the truth and facts is no surprise however.

    But is it "politically correct"?

Oh, gee, thanks for pointing out what Ricky Ray himself, post head shot, could’ve determined as the difference between his case and the current one.

Again, Democrat nuance: We only kill self-made retards.

And once again, you miss the point entirely. No surprise there.

Not sure. The OP was clearly using the term in a neutral rather than pejorative sense, and that is what is important here. It's clearly acceptable to refer to someone as being "retarded", e.g. from the article:

"-- Texas authorities executed Marvin Wilson, a 54-year-old death row inmate, on Tuesday night after his attorneys failed to convince state and federal courts that he was mentally retarded and ineligible for the death penalty under a 2002 Supreme Court ruling."

But is someone who is legally retarded not a retard, or is the latter only used as an insult these days? Similar to spastic perhaps? It was once an acceptable way to refer to someone with spasticity, but soon became a derogatory term. Apparently this is described as the euphemism treadmill, in which euphemisms evolve over time into taboo words and negative connotations crowd out neutral ones, requiring new neutral terms, e.g.

lame → crippled → spastic → handicapped → disabled → physically challenged → differently abled → People with Disabilities

Interesting stuff, and I'm glad we could have such a civilized conversation about language. Now, back to work you Mongoloid cretins thumbsup.
