U.S. teen pregnancy drops sharply; most common in Bible Belt

  • Hey Ernie and RP...care to research the teen preg rate for the inner cities of America? Chicago, NYC? Philly? Detroit? LA? Atlanta? You know...the places where there are liberal sex ed policies going on?
And also where...thank God, the govt is waging their "war on poverty"?

I'd do it but I'm working and I am only on my cell. Work is a thing I do so as to pay my "fair share" of taxes so as to contribute to this fine 50 year long war on poverty.

Please...check boingboing.net and see if they have those stats

EDIT: better yet...let's combine the teen preggers rate of all the inner cities of America..you know those school districts where the libs have been in charge for generations with THEIR liberal sex ed policies?....let's combine those inner city rates and compare those to the "bible belt" rates that are having an epidemic of teen pregnancies because of "conservative sex ed policies"?

This probably has to do with the fact that abstinence only education doesn't really work for horny teenagers.

Are the southern bible belters just more horny than the rest of the country?

I'm not dodging anything...great, so the teen pregnancy rate has gone up in the south...so what? Has there been studies done that show proof that its because of conservative sex ed policies? Besides....you guys really think teens are that stupid?

You take yourselves way too serious

dude, you're making a Compound of yourself on this thread. Seriously, defending and rationalizing teen pregnancy. Pretty damn weak, bro.

"The United States government bet on the wrong program to cut down on teenage pregnancies and birth rates. Numerous studies show that teen pregnancies are highest in states where abstinence-only education is standard. The rates dropped in nearly all states and across all racial and ethnic groups.

Texas Governor Rick Perry defended abstinence education in Texas, saying “it works” while statistics rate it with the third-highest teen pregnancy rates in the country.

Researchers at the University of Washington in Seattle found that teenagers who received some type of comprehensive sex education were 60 percent less likely to get pregnant or get someone else pregnant, while a federal report showed that abstinence-only programs had “no impacts on rates of sexual abstinence," reports Amanda Peterson Beadle for ThinkProgress."

Oh, and here's an interesting little nugget about the state with the lowest teen pregnancy rate:

"New Hampshire, on the other hand, requires comprehensive sex education in schools that includes abstinence and information about condoms and contraception. "

States with abstinence-only education have higher teen pregnancy rates

When did I say anything about changing "voting demographics" or "Sex Ed philosophies"? All I implied is that its quite the coincidence that after a bunch of tree hugging, dope smoking, dirt worshiping, Volvo driving NE libs started migrating to the "bible belt" for employment and brought their slutty little pin cushion daughters with them to be taken advantage of by Billy Bob...the teen pregger rate goes up.

You are making this way more complicated than it has to be.

And your theory is bunk. Just like 90% of your other posts.

    try again?

I must be crazy to be in a loony bin like this.

Poverty rate? So people in the "bible belt" are poor? So using RP and Ernies logic....it must be because everyone is on Govt assistance. I can't believe that the govt is letting this happen. I mean...if teens are getting pregnant because of the lack of liberal govt statist sex ed directives put out by the DOE...why can't the govt do something about the poverty that is causing this also?

That's just some selective central command elitist policy enforcement going on. I mean...why is it that the govt can profess to fight a war on poverty but not teen pregnancies?

You don't need to get so defensive. I wasn't attacking you or conservatives. I was pointing out that teen pregnancy rates are strongly linked to poverty and that is the likely explanation rather than much to do with religion. There is plenty of data showing that abstinence only sex-ed programs are less effective than programs that teach both abstinence and safe sex. But these programs have less of an impact compared to cultural and socio-economic factors.

A final point. Teen pregnancy rates are not always a predictor of teen sexual activity rates. For example, I know that some years back, Utah had a relatively high teen pregnancy rate even though the rate of teen sexual activity was much lower than other states (Mormon influence). The problem was that those teens who did engage in sex almost never used protection.

Wow, you are so completely OFF, all the time.

This seems to be your M.O.: Jump into a thread without knowing anything about the topic being discusseed and just start flinging turds hoping something will stick.

Teen preggers rates are down nearly everywhere. If you had bothered to do 1 minute of research you would have have known this. Rates are relatively high in the south (but still dropping), where conservatives push for abstinence only policies and where states warn against "gateway sexual activities", like holding hands.

You really suck as a poster.

Inner city teen pregnany rates with their liberal sex ed policies vs bible belt teen pregnancy rates with their conservative sex ed policies.

I'm gonna go out on a limb and suggest that teen pregnancy rates have nothing to do with sex ed and everything to do with poverty. Although I'm sure that doesn't fit your narrative?

Not necessarily. However there's been some studies that in states that emphasize safer sex, teens are more likely to use condoms than those that are taught abstinence only programs.

And this was AFTER you were supplied with two links which both stated the opposite.

Oh, you were joking. Funny, funny stuff. Who says conservatives have no sense of humor?

My pathetic attempt at explaining the relatively high preg rates in the south is backed by plenty of scientific literature. Your theory of liberal emigration to the south is not.
