Unbiased, MSNBC Journalist Showing His Love For The Troops

MSNBC’s Chris Hayes apologizes for questioning use of ‘heroes’ to describe fallen soldiers | The Cutline - Yahoo! News

From the blog The Cutline: Chris Hayes, host of MSNBC's weekend morning talk show to describe fallen U.S. soldiers. After an interview with Lt. Col. Steve Beck, a former Marine whose job was to notify military families of the death of a loved one, Hayes [...]

Of course you'll be voting for Romney who is a great American military leader too. At the height of the Viet Nam adventure Mitt got to live in France for two years proselytizing the Mormon faith. None of his sons ever enlisted either.

The real question should be why does bullwinky hate free speech?

  • That's an interesting comment - and, of course, led to a predictably angry and boring reaction from Bullwrinkle. It's been clear to me for a long time that the word "hero" is used as part of the continuing pro-war promotional campaign, but those who've died in service to the country deserve to be called heroes - so I don't have a problem with it.

What gets really bad is when the pro-war promoters tell us that if we're against whatever war they're promoting, we must be against the troops. You'd have to be a moron to buy that.

Pundits, Platitudes, and Patriotism: War Heroes and Their Enemies

On Sunday, MSNBC host Chris Hayes said the following, in a discussion about war, soldiers, and death:

  • That would come from the same trollwrinkle whose been singing the praises of the Ryan budget that does nothing for the vets.

But being who he is, trollwrinkle doesn't give a damn about this generation of vets.

Exactly. It's a perfectly legitimate question and none of the people who are criticizing him seemingly paid any attention to most of the things he said.

Chris Hayes is afraid the word 'hero' is used to justify more war ---> Chris Hayes wants less war ---> Less war means fewer American soldiers (and others) dying ---> Chris Hayes hates the troops.

    Truly brilliant.

Politics - Conor Friedersdorf - In Defense of Chris Hayes - The Atlantic

The MSNBC host is getting beat up for remarks he made about the heroism of American soldiers. Really, his critics are the ones who should be apologizing.

I haven't watched his (Chris') show very much, but from what I've seen he likes to inspire debate and talk about difficult issues. That was what happened here and there was no reason for him to apologize for it. Maybe people wouldn't have been so angry if they actually tried to understand his point. Also, I'm not really an Ed Schultz fan, either.

I wonder why he's still on. I don't know anyone who's a fan of that show. It's like someone had an idea that conservatives have a lot of fat, obnoxious white guys yelling on TV and on the radio, so liberals should have one, too.

I do like his ridiculous poll questions, though: "All right, get out yer phones. Are Republicans a bunch of drooling idiots who can't find their own taints with both hands and a GPS? Text 'A' for yes, or the entire alphabet in morse code for no."

Good point about Chris. I need to check out his show as I am mostly familiar with seeing him as a guest on other shows. He has always struck me as someone who measures his words pretty carefully and handles tough topics without being confrontational.

Interesting you say that in your normal vindictive, hateful, angry tone. I did the research and, suprisingly, I noticed our current commander in chief did not enlist in any branch of the military either. Why is it that the majority of vets support Romney?

If you mean his comment that the use of the word "hero" is "rhetorically proximate to justifications for more war," yes - because it is.

If you mean his comment that "we marshal this word in a way that is problematic," as I said, "I don't have a problem with it."

I thought I had been pretty clear on that, but you're apparently unsure whether to be outraged by my post or not. Go ahead and get angry - that's always fun!
