WOTS is that Occupy is starting up again May 1st

  • Are you guys still working towards that whole "revolution, not reform" stuff? You guys realize that historically, the revolutionaries don't make out so well, right? They typically cause the revolution and then some ego maniac takes power and kills them? You guys may want to consider making changes at the ballot box.....or maybe read a history book......just saying.

since my wife works in the fashion industry (for a very left wing CEO) she goes for more of a "Protester Chic" look.

That sucks. Any more plans to dump tubs of shit into bank lobbies? Personally, I think dumping shit into bank lobbies is an excellent way to get revolutionary change (especially positive change).

Police say an Occupy Wall Street protester dumped a tub of human waste down a public stairwell and inside a bank vestibule, and got caught on video.

Unfortunately for the world, they don't need to be taken seriously. They just need to be "pressure from below" as designed.

OWS can be used agains wealth concentration (which equates to power concentration to unelected individuals and a renewed royalty class).

What do you have against wealth concentration?!?

    TravelinMan

  • Nitro Biscuits said...

Plutocracies are terrible for democracy. Wealth concentration has all kinds of terrible side effects. Politicians are more likely to be puppets and corruption is typically far more prevalent, speculators are more likely to run wild with oil, and it ultimately means the middle class is has less buying power and therefore less pull. And when the poor and whats left of the middle classes are disenfranchised it's terrible for stability.

Dumping shit and piss in a bank lobby will not solve this.

So what's the answer then? For those that work hard and have saved lots of money - tax the ever living piss out of them and redistribute their wealth to those less fortunate?

I mean, you said a lot of fancy words there, but I'm not sure what you're proposing.

  • Instead of throwing feces at banks, maybe some Occupiers should collaborate on a 325-page letter to the SEC? Surely that would win the attention and some respect of those who oppose them.

    Occupy’s amazing Volcker Rule letter

One of the saddest aspects of the financialization of the US economy is the way in which America's best and brightest found themselves working on Wall Street, rather than in jobs which improved the state of the world. Proof of this comes from the absolutely astonishing 325-page comment letter on the Volcker Rule which has been put together by Occupy the SEC.

Yea, but when will Obama understand this??

Not that his wars in Iraq, Afghanistan, Yemen, Libya, 4 African countries I can't name without doing research, and now possibly Syria and Iran aren't lovely. Let's just say this......if I LOVED war. If I just wanted our President to get involved in almost every country in the world, bomb the shit out of brown people, overthrow governments, etc, etc....Obama would get my vote.

You know when things were REALLY equal. About 500 years ago. Back then, pretty much everyone was broke as shit, could barely feed themselves, died young. Wealth was far far more equal back compared to today.

There is really nothing wrong with "wealth concentration" as long as those who earned the wealth did it legally and fairly.

The top 1% people need to be bumped to clinton level taxes and the top .01% need to be bumped to something even higher. And the .001% even higher. Reagan got rid of the graduated tax scale for the super super rich, beyond 1%ers, and that has directly contributed to the creation of many more super super wealthy (again way beyond 1% ers).

What will this actually do to help the 99% of us that are 'suffering' or solve the national debt? In other words how much extra money would this bring in?

    spartanMF

  • Nitro Biscuits said...

It would be significant but we have to cut spending by a lot too. In a perfect world we would get our financial house in order and then find ways to funnel money to the poor and middle classes in a productive way since there will never be enough low skill jobs in this day and age when we are so efficient with creating products and wealth that we won't ever need a big labor force again.

Don't cop out by saying it would be "significant". What is the dollar of revenue that would be brought in if the rates were changed to the rates under Clinton.

    Compound 2

  • Nitro Biscuits said...

It's a complex figure. I wouldn't consider it a "cop out" when it's a number that's hard to figure. The CBO put a number on the bush tax cuts though.. might be a place to start trying to figure it out.

    https://docs.google.com/viewer?url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.cbo.gov%2Fsites%2Fdefault%2Ffiles%2Fcbofiles%2Fftpdocs%2F121xx%2Fdoc12187%2Fchangesbaselineprojections.pdf

And some figures taken from that CBO study above

    That doesn't answer the question.

The reason I asked for a number is because changing the tax rate to the prior tax rates doesn't even come close to closing our deficit. So it doesn't solve the problem.

This country was built by people who worked hard then went home and had just a few too many every night. Then went back to work.

No no and no. Obama is a liberal, therefore he is allowed to spend billions on these illegal wars and bomb people and kill civilians. Remember, the libs only get outraged over this when a repub does it. When it is one of their own, it is well worth it and he's doing the right thing.
