This is your 2nd thread in a couple weeks about a private school firing a teacher for moral reasons.
Why on earth do you think a private entity shouldn't be allowed to do this? Public school teachers often have "moral turpitude" stipulations in their contracts.
Should this chick be allowed to teach 8th graders?

This poor gal was fired because she was undergoing IVF treatments. http://news.yahoo.com/teacher-fired-receiving-fertility-treatments-211311476--abc-news-topstories.html
Her employers don't believe in IVF because in many cases it leads to the destruction of embryos....however that did not occur during the course of her treatment....in essence she's been fired because when the process was used on other some other women it resulted in the destruction of embryos.

I fail to see why she should be penalized by the school system for her out of school activities. Did she require her students to view the videos? Did she even tell her students about them? This is simply another case of an employer striving to control every aspect of an employees personal life. It is very reminiscent of what Henry Ford did in the 1920's. It was wrong then and it's just as wrong now.

These days... yes. I'm being completely serious.
I empathize with the woman, but the fact of the matter is those who control the resources (money) make the rules.
I wish things in this world were different, but unfortunately there's nothing we can do about it. Unless you've been able to amass an amount of resources that allows you to be in control, you're just a pawn in their game. Since it's their game, it's their rules.

When you work for a private institution, yes! That is one of the many rights as private institution has. The woman is exercising her right to sue that institution and let the courts handle it.
A Catholic Institution has a "moral" standard and they have their right to have like minded individuals work for them. IVF is a no-no for catholics and they provide other assistance to people who need help becoming pregnant.
And talking about the porn star and if they were a teacher.would you mind. It really doesn't matter what you would think because every school board in the country would make sure she is not in a classroom, even if she was a highly effective teacher. So even government institutions have a "moral" standing when it comes to employment.

Should your employer get to decide which food you eat, which car you drive, what type of house you get to live in, which neighborhood you have to live in, how many kids you must have, which schools the kids must attend, what type of clothes you must wear? That is where your and and xsanguine type thinking is leading. You seem to think that the government has no business dictating your life, but seem very content to selling yourself to a company. That's just sad.

In the article it says the Catholic Church is against destroying unused embryo's not IVF. They are assuming that IVF automatically means destroying the unused embryo's which is not the case with this woman.
This how the blatant hypocrisy of the Catholic Church or at least this monsignor. The Church encourages a husband and wife to procreate yet when they try to use the only viable means available she gets fired.

The right of a private institution is to uphold what values it see's as important. If I worked for a company that tried to educate people against the killing and eating of animals, then went on a hunting trip and posted pictures of us hunting and eating our kill, that company would have the right to fire me because they deem me not to have the same values as them.
Most companies are not this strict in thinking because stricter rules you would lose a lot of talent. That is up for the company to judge though. In this instance the Catholic Church thinks having a woman doing something that is strictly against Chuch law is not the best example to have in their school, that is their right.
If people are unhappy at their company because of certain rules, they are free to leave. Does the company you work for require you to be at work at a certain time and leave at a certain time, isn't that dictating your life? (when you wake up, when you get to do errands) Companies dictate your life all the time.

I'm confused by this "they are a private institution, they can demand employees live by whatever code they want" argument. Are there not lines here, lines that courts have drawn regarding personal freedoms? Could they say, fire her for marrying a black man?
