  • Why are the pope's activities referred to as "papal"?

What is that, a Titleist? A hole in one...

  • What do they do with the old Pope? Is there a ceremony where he fires electrical rays from his fingers as Darth Vader throws him down an elevator shaft?

I don't think we're supposed to ask questions like that.. it offends the Catholicks..and they're already insecure enough..

You are really showing your bigotry and ignorance here.

The Catholic Church consists of over a billion people with varying backgrounds. These backgrounds include innumerable differences of opinion concerning Catholic doctrine, including but not limited to women in the clergy, contraception, abortion, etc. As a matter of fact, a recent poll showed that 80% of Catholic approve of using contraception. Last I checked, the official Church stance has been against contraception. There are also varying opinions on the topics I just mentioned. Nice "mind control."

Your comment about "belonging to an organization that tolerates or even condones pedophilia" is complete bigotry and ignorance. At the very least, you are implying that being Catholic means you condone pedophilia. At worst, that is what you flatout meant to say. That is bigoted, ignorant, discriminatory and a low blow against the billion+ Catholics that absolutely condemn pedophilia and work for the good of the Church.

As for gender discrimination, more and more Catholics would prefer to see women in the clergy. Also, you might be surprised to know that outside the clergy women hold many high ranking positions within the Church, including chancellor (Catholic equivalent of CEO of a diocese/archdiocese) and many positions in Vatican City itself. If you caught any of CNN's coverage last night, you would have learned that the percentage of women in these chancellor/CEO positions is HIGHER than many other career areas, including law firms and accounting firms.

Before you were just annoying. Now you are showing your true colors as an intolerant bigot with unbridled Catholic hate.

    Jud -

I understand your points. However, the point is that if you do not support what the Vatican says - then you are not really Catholic. Until and unless the laity steps up to the plate and says no more - nothing will change. Even then it probably won't. There is no such thing as a progressive church doctrine. I used to feel as you do, but there is no room in the Church for those who do not to the party line.

We are alike in that we generally enjoy and love both the Catholic Mass and the people who attend. But I could not in good conscience continue to participate in the hypocrisy espoused by the council of Bishops, etc. If that is what makes you Catholic, then I want no part of it.
