Jones Becomes No. 17 For 2013

Assistant Mark Staten served as Jones' primary recruiting coach

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Dillard senior defensive tackle Noah Jones became commit No. 17 for Michigan State’s 2013 class Sunday.

MSU assistant coach Mark Staten offered Jones less than a week ago and stayed in touch with him throughout the week. Jones called Staten Sunday following his official visit to East Lansing and later gave coach Mark Dantonio the good news.

“They said they were glad I committed,” Jones told 247Sports’ Luke Stampini via text message. “They were really excited for me to come up there. I told them I was excited as well. Coach Staten, he was the one recruiting me, so he was the first to find out. Then I spoke to coach Dantonio.”

The 6-foot-3, 270-pound prospect holds additional offers from Connecticut, Cincinnati and Samford. Jones said the atmosphere during his official visit this weekend is what ultimately won him over.

“It’s just a family,” Jones said. “It’s more than a football team. It’s a family and I like that. I like how the coaches will sacrifice for the team and they will put the players before themselves. That really stuck with me.”
